Disable Input Shaper for MK4S?

I have just upgraded to the MK4s and just wanted to disable the input shaper, as I had not made the best quality experience with it in the past.

I had learned that I need to go to printers->Add printer, but the only choices available are:

  • "Original Prusa MK4S" with no Input Shaper in it's name, but a green Input Shaper badge on the image.
  • "Original Prusa MK4 Input Shaper" with green Input Shaper badge on the image.
  • "Orginal Prusa MK4" at the bottom in Legacy profiles.

So what is the supposed way to disable the IS on the MK4s?

Use the legacy MK4 profile?

I am experiencing the same issue's and I believe Input Shaper is the cause, I am wondering how to disable it also

RE:

I asked support the same question today and here was their reply:

Support reply:

ah yes, IS is inbuilt with the MK4S. However IS itself is only a tool which helps mitigate issues caused by fast printer movements, thus allowing the printer to use faster print moves. You can technically slow down the print speeds if there seems to be any print issues cased by that.

My followup question:

Isn't input shaping still active even though you manually slow down speeds?  I'm not sure if speed was the only difference with the MK4 profiles I was used to.

Support reply:

technically yes, practically it wouldn't be any different from profiles not having IS active.

So at the moment it seems like IS is always on.  for the MK4S default profile.  I was hoping to have the option for 2 separate profiles too. One with IS and one without IS.

There is a M-command for disabling input shaper:

M593 F0

Place it at the end of the Start-G code section of custom G-code tab of the printer

I'm not sure if this code is recognized. You need to perform a test print (calibration cube) with this M command and without.

Would be nice to hear from your result.

RE: Disable Input Shaper for MK4S?

I found the error. The M593 command was needed in the first firmware interations. You could not modify the input shaper on the printer directly. Now you have the option on Settings->input shaper to modify the parameter directly on the printer. There are two "filter" settings for x and y. Change both to "null" and the input shaper is disabled.

Support is correct on their recommendations.

I doubt any of your issues, whatever they are, are from input shaping.

If you just want to slow it down reduce the volumetric flow rate in your filament profile.

My MK4 & MK4S have never made better looking parts.  I suspect whatever issue you have is related to a hardware problem, or some of your filament profile settings.

I do not have problem with having IS always on, but the new profiles for MK4S with IS do not provide more details in layer height than 0.1mm FAST DETAIL. That means that MK4S does not allow printing in 0.05mm ULTRA DETAIL? That is kind of unexpected and unwanted surprise after upgrade....

It sucks that Prusa dropped the 0.05mm layer height Print Settings profile, but you could create your own. If I were to do this, I would use the profile compare tool to see the difference between the 0.2mm layer height and 0.05mm layer height Print Settings profiles for the MK4 Printer profile of the nozzle size you want. Then apply those changes to the MK4S 0.2mm layer height Print Settings profile and save it as a custom Print Settings profile.
