[5.0.0-alpha2] How to reduce seam gaps?

The particular model pictured magnifies the issue, maybe because of the frequent retractions. Other seams do not have such a large gap.

comparison between IS presets showing large seam gap when IS is enabled

Any suggestions on how to mitigate this specific issue without impacting the rest of the print?

There's also increased stringing, but I think this is due to the higher nozzle temperature in the IS preset.

For reference the filament used was Polymaker PolyTerra PLA "Banana" Color.

Looks very similar to the issue I posted "quality issues" only not that bad.

It seems there is filament missing around the seems in some situations. On non round parts the seems with is enabled are also more visible but not as bad.

Interesting, very similar impact in your prints too, although I haven't seen the same kind of artifacts yet. I might try printing that model later.

I found that setting Print Settings -> Advanced -> Infill/perimeters overlap to 20% seems to be an improvement, however I haven't tested this in non-round parts yet.

I don't think the following changes impact the improvement in the seam gap, but will note them for reference:

  • Nozzle temp down to 215C (for less stringing)
  • Cooling down to 60% (for less noise)
  • Filament dried to 10% humidity (for less stringing)
  • Decreased height for bottom of the model (for less filament used)
  • Didn't clean print bed well enough -- ignore the partial poor adhesion on first layer, I was lazy 😛

Hmm I wasn't able to replicate this again and am still seeing large gaps. Might've made a mistake in my previous post.

RE:

Tried a different setting which seems to help: Extra length on restart

Setting it to 0.05 - 0.1mm seems to eliminate the gap.

Kind of interesting that there's less stringing too. No other parameters were changed. I printed the 0.5mm one first, down to the 0mm default.
