Prusament PLA Oh My Gold – is it very brittle with poor layer adhesion?
Hi!
I just bought a Chinese brand Silk Gold PLA and it’s very brittle with poor adhesion between the layers. I must print it very slowly (20m/s speed) at 245C in order to achieve acceptable adhesion. But it’s very very brittle.
My question is if I purchase “Prusament PLA Oh My Gold” will the problem be the same – could anyone share his experience? What temperatures and speeds do you use?
Not brittle
Prusament is great and will not be brittle at all when printed with the Prusament PrusaSlicer profiles (appropriate temperature, etc.).
You should be able to get good layer adhesion on your Chinese filament by tweaking other slicer settings such as extrusion multiplier, etc. It could also be because the filament has soaked up moisture, so you could try drying it.
I recommend taking a look at local companies producing filament; you could be surprised. For instance, here in Canada filaments.ca makes and distributes high-quality filament at much lower prices than what you can generally find online. Plus I'm encouraging local commerce by buying from them. Even though I like Prusament, it is far from affordable here and I guess in many other countries too.
RE: Are you sure?
The moisture is 11%. I tried with extrusion multiplier from 0.7 to 1.3 - no changes at all. The material melts OK, but is just does not glue between the layers. I am from Europe so Prusament is an affordable option for me with minimum delivery price.
Have you a personal experience with "Prusament PLA Oh My Gold" or you assume it's not brittle?
RE: Are you sure?
I used other Prusament PLA colors but not Oh My Gold specifically. So yes, I assume it must be similar. You could read reviews on the store and elsewhere to get a better idea of the characteristics from people who actually used it. I'd be surprised if it delaminated though, as Prusament is high-quality stuff in general.
