Printing problems with new Mini+ and Overture Matte PLA
Hello. I have just received my Mini+ (non-kit). My first attempts at printing are pretty good when using Prusament filament (PLA) but not good at all with Overture Matte PLA. I used the Prusament PLA profile and the Overture PLA profile. See attached picture. The left is the Overture, the right Prusament. There is significant stringing with the overture matte and small gaps. Things I have tried to attempt to fix the overture prints:
- Increasing hotend temp to 215 (default is 210)
- Decreasing hotend temp to 200 and 205
- Increasing extrusion multiplier to 1.05 and 1.10
Increasing the extrusion multiplier seemed to improve the gaps (but not completely) but increased the amount of stringing.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I have tried to insert the image multiple times -- I always only get the image data text, but no actual picture. Sorry for poor post

Here is the comparison image. Overture on left, Prusament on right. I still cant get the image to show up inline in the post 🙁

I have had good results with the black Matte.

@cwbullet
Thanks. Did you use the overture profile? I also tried the prusament profile. Maybe i have a bad batch of filament?

I don't think I've used it (and I haven't tried Overture on my Mini+ yet), but there is a profile for Overture PLA in Prusa Slicer that you can download.

As stated, I am using overture pla profile. However, I think this problem is specific to the "Overture Matte PLA". Regular overture pla has printed fine. I am not sure how to adjust for the matte type.

Oh, sorry....I missed that.

Yes. I did have to adjust my Z. I am nto surfe if ti was lower or higher than my standard Prusament / Overture height.

I tried to print some Overture Matte Black on the Mini last night and ended up stopping the print. I had some large flat surfaces, and it was printing really streaky and there were a few lumps of filament on the surface. No gaps, but stringy and goopy like your image on the left. But I forgot to switch to the Overture profile in Slicer so this is with the profile for Prusament. Looks like it had too much temp.
And just realized that I also printed a lithophane with Overture Matte White a couple of weeks ago and it had some gaps in it. The same file and filament printed fine on my Mk3S.

Thanks for the additional info. I did try a 2nd spool of Overture Matte and it behaves better. It still has some of the gaps (but far fewer) and very little stringing. I did notice there is quite a bit of banding between layers on a flat surface as you said. I like the plain (non-matte) overture pla but will look around for an alternative for matte. I think I will try SpiderMaker first as it has good reviews:

Spider is great filament, but expensive.

Wet filament
I know this is an old thread but figured this may help some that stumble onto it.
I’ve had Overture Matte that exhibited the same as OP indicated on both Prusa and Creality printers. One roll started doing this after having printed beautifully for several prints. Others have done it right out of the box.
It appears that this filament is highly susceptible to humidity. Much more sensitive than normal PLA. Along with the gaps and stringing, I was hearing the tell-tale sign of “snap, crackle, pop” as the filament extruded. Bought a filament dryer and it took care of the issue. Although, I do have to dry it longer than other PLA’s.
matte overture
I read this before. I have printed one roll and could not leave it out on the counetr for long.

Thanks for the additional info
Thanks for the clues about humidity issues. I did post in another thread that I have finally found a matte PLA that is working fantastically for me. And it has excellent color choices: PolyMaker PolyTerra PLA.
Good to know
Great to know! I'll definitely give it a try soon. I was going to get a roll of white matte soon. Hopefully it prints as nicely as the dry Overture Matte without the same humidity maintenance.
