Organic Supports have gaps between layers

I have not been actively printing for the past 2 years or so due to the birth of my first child.  Back when I started this hobby, I don’t recall Prusa Slicer even offering Organic “tree” supports (or whatever you want to call them).  So admittedly, I am a noob in this regard.

I purchased an .stl print file and the creator suggested that organic supports be used in Prusa, and also stated that the “default” settings should work fine.  I just tried this print twice with Atomic PETG and both times large gaps appear between layers of the tree supports, causing them to eventually fail when they get caught on the nozzle and are torn from the print bed.

  • Is there something obvious I should be changing before I dive down an hours long rabbit hole of organic support self-education?  I’m not sure if this is an overall under-extrusion issue (which was the last issue I had before my 3D printing hiatus), but I’m almost certain I fixed that issue by replacing all PTFE, replacing my nozzle, and thoroughly cleaning the extruder gears and hotend.

First dry your filament; there are plenty of threads on the topic here, try again and if the problem persists come back with new pictures.  We should get a much better idea of the problem once the stringing is gone.

Cheerio,
