Multicolor print with manual MMU - printer pauses after priming/wiping

This might all be too advanced for me, but I have been trying to print something in two colours with a "manual" MMU with two STLs on the build plate and each STL assigned to a different "extruder" - with the plan being to swap filaments manually.

I did a small test piece last night and it worked okay - except for some lousy gaps due to the wrong slicer settings.  So I went back and changed them, and set it up with the model I actually WANT to print.

Just tried it; two out of three of my GCode files just sit there and do bugger all.  But the one that I'd really like to print starts okay, does a prime/wipe thingy (I said that this was too advanced for me), then stops; it fails miserably to carry on and print the perimeter, let alone the actual part.

Best I can tell is that the problem is around line 340-380 of the code, but I really don't know what I'm doing 0 so there might be something fundamentally wrong with how I'm going about this.

(As to my other files, they were made with the same slicer settings but don't even heat up the bed/nozzle or go through the ABL routine!)

I think that the answer is to just go out and buy a Bambu Labs machine and give up on trying to print in more than one color until it arrives!

It helps if you design for manual changes, look at these threads:

Thanks.  Yes, I'd read those posts (plus a couple of others); understood about half of what I was doing!

I think that I had two big problems.  The first was that I'd switched the "quality" settings between two prints - and the second setting I'd used wasn't properly set up for dual virtual extruders!

The second is that I think that I had overcomplicated things!

I've started again from scratch - with a new printer profile, new print settings and a much less complicated model - just to see if I can get it working.  Then, once it is I'll ramp up the complexity of the thing that I'm trying to print.

The less sensible part of my brain is still telling me to cut my losses and buy a Bambu with AMS; it's just that if I can crack this, the items I want to print ought to pay for the Bambu (and I'd rather spend the money after it's in my bank account rather than play "catch up"; not a very "capitalist" way of doing things, but I'm a bit old-fashioned when it comes to things like that).

Just create a new virtual printer preset with several heads and the modified tool change gcode, save it as 'ManualMMU' and it will be there whenever you need it.

In the meanwhile:

Please save your project as a .3mf file

Files > Save Project as

Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your part and your settings for us to diagnose.

... gcode files are almost useless for this purpose, they just show the result, not how you got there.

@Richard D,

Could you please save your projct as a .3mf file, then zip comprss the .3mf file and attach the zip fil to your next post, then maybe w can offer help.

Will do.  Although by starting again and following it all through carefully (and omitting the "clever" bits - like a wipe tower - it's all working as intended.

The finished product involves WAY too many filament swaps to be practical on even a semi-commercial basis, though, so I expect to be ordering a Bambu with AMS shortly.
