Just liquid dish soap and hot water to flush the grease away. Please do not use cloth. I may have been washed with softener which contains grease. Please do not touch the print surface with your fingers. Use paper towels to pick the piece from the sheet instead. You can get residue off the sheet with a ceran board scraper for the kitchen cooktop. I have rounded its corners slightly. Use it exclusively for the printer. That way, you do not have to clean the sheet at all for many dozens of prints.

Some marks on the plate are normal. If the PEI foiled sheet is really worn down, you may rejuvenate the surface by a few soft wipes with very fine sandpaper (>1000). Consider getting the satin sheet.

The text looks very large. Does it really need a 0.25 mm nozzle?

Also seems like your first layer is a bit too high, see https://www.printables.com/model/107639-first-layer-calibration-prusa-mini - there is ann url to the article with a video explaining how to do it ( you need to adjust z level while printing).

Thanks, lowering z-offset did help, but I'm still seeing the same-ish artifacts in the same places. The nozzle hasn't been used much so I don't think it's that.

I normally use IPA after each print and soap and water after every few - I've never been able to get rid of the marks on the plate.

It's fair about the nozzle size, it's that size for the text print (second photo), I was just trying to debug printing artifacts I've been seeing.

A 0.25 mm nozzle is less forgiving, 0.1mm layer height also. Nevertheless, the first layer height should be 0.2 mm. Do you really need a 0.25 mm nozzle and 0.1 mm  layer height for parts this size? Print duration will be high.

Ideally, the bed is even and the cantilever moves the nozzle precisely parallel to the bed.

In the photo, I'm printing a bunch of the same object. These gaps aren't consistent in size but seem to occur in the same places in the first layer.

In some prints, I'll continue to see these breaks in extrusion beyond the first layer, with breaks and bulges.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What I've tried

  • First Layer Callibration on printer (can't seem to get rid of some gaps/under extrusion even in that test)
  • Cold pulls
  • Installing a Bondtech Extruder
  • Drying filament in a filament dryer

Print settings

  • 230 first layer, 200 beyond
  • PolyTerra Matte PLA
  • .25 nozzle
  • .1 layer height
