Gameplan for my first long print!?
Hi!
I got my Prusa Mk3s+ about 2 weeks and I´m getting ready to do my first big print. I´ve been trying to wrap my head around this object my brother draw, and the best way to print it. With full supports the print time is around 19 hours, and I´m thinkin to myself, you got to be able to optimize this. As a beginner I figure I´ll turn to the forums. How would you print this?
It needs to be rigid, but i dont think a solid part is necessary. Could you place supports on certain places and rely more on bridging, or would that compromise the stability of the part to much?
Pictures and link to stl below. I´m grateful for any advice.
Thanks /Gustav

There will probably be a number of replies to this query,
this is one option
the wings should print with bridges.
the conical section is a bit of a shallow angle, if it could be increased towards 45 degrees then supports would not be needed

Thanks for your reply!
Ok, so if I understand the idea here is loose the infill by increasing the perimeter, and in that way the rectangular overhangs on the sides will have a better chance of printing good even if the angle is as steep as it is? And keeping the supports when it fuses with the circular shape ensuring stability where the part really needs it. Knocked off 8 hours right there.
Thank you for helping me learning 🙂

.
I was able to change the angle of the cone and printed the whole thing in a little over 7 hours without supports. It turned out functional and looks good on the outside. The bridges didn´t make it, and now I see that a didn´t checked detect bridging perimeters. Learning from my mistakes here. Anyway, the print will work and serve it´s purpose. Thank you both for the tips!
