Brittle Parts on One Side of Bed but Extremely Strong on other end of bed. How to Fix?

Hi Everyone,

I am having trouble with my Prusa Mini+ (actually two troubles, that is on another topic).

I have a small part product, and I am printing many of them at once on the print bed. This part has a protrusion that is very skinny and is about 5 mm tall.  I print 36 of them at once on 6x6 rows.

When I run the print, the tops from the farthest row from the LCD - parallel to the Y-axis - are extremely strong. However, the next two rows coming closer to the LCD are extremely fragile, and the following three rows are mediocre - not too weak but not strong enough.

Not sure what's wrong.

I am using Prusaslicer 2.4.1 beta3 with a retraction of 3.2 mm

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank You,

Caleb

One thing I forgot to mention: It had been printing fine for months without a problem but now I am having that issue.

I am using the same filament (Overture PLA) and g-code, so wondering if it is something mechanical.

Will be performing some more tests though!

Once again, any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Caleb

Sudden problems after months of use usually boil down to one of three issues.

Insufficient maintenance.

Damp filament.

And less often, nozzle wear.

Cheerio,

Thanks for the reply!

Do you think maybe the extruder gear needs cleaning? (it doesn't really look like it needs it though)

Also, I noticed that the printer is on a slight 1-2° tilt on the table. Maybe that caused some of the problems because certain parts of the bed now print stronger than others?

Thoughts?

I will do some test prints with what I have described here.

Thanks again!

Caleb

The table shouldn't have any effect. You can pick up the printer and turn it while printing with no real effect. Mine is on a table that isn't completely level and it doesn't care.

I see you posted in another thread that your printer probably isn't square. Look at the links I put in that thread and see if getting the printer square helps.

The whole point of maintenance is to run through common issues before it becomes obvious that attention is needed ...

Thanks for all the replies!

Not sure if I should have replied to this comment in the other thread, but could the printer being on an unlevel surface eventually lead to squaring issues?

I squared the printer and am now eagerly awaiting test print results!

Thanks again for everyone's helpful feedback!

RE: Brittle Parts on One Side of Bed but Extremely Strong on other end of bed. How to Fix?

From my learning about 3d printer, this problem is because the friction of the bowden tube. When the hotend move closer to the LCD (in this case is prusa mini), the bowden tube / filament inside the bowden get stressed and the filament become hard to pushed, so that will affect the amount of filament being extruded and make the object printed on that side become thinner because there will be less material printed on that side. My solution is i print using sequential method. So the object will printed one by one, and focused on one spot, but it will take more time. You can try it, but becareful of crashing your hotend to the printed object.
