Y-axis scratching sound
I am getting a strange sound coming from my printer. I am pretty sure it is coming from my Y-Axis as it happens whenever that moves. It sounds like it is coming from the display side or under the bed.
It doesn't make the sound through the whole Y-axis travel, only the middle bit. I have tried to add lubricant to the bearings but no changes. I thought it could be rubbing from the belt to the axis on the display side.
Anyone had this happen before?

Hi,
What material are you using ? I have had this with several printers when using for instance a crystal clear PLA. It is the noise of the material when the nose moves on it.

I only use PLA, mainly Prusament PLA. But it happens with all filaments. I think it is hardware related not filament.

Have you ever switched off the printer and moved the axes in all directions? Maybe something is rubbing off or maybe the linear bearings are making such noises. Are the linear bearings well lubricated? Belt tension ok and no loose drive pulleys?

I just moved the axes manually and they still make the noise. Added some lubricant and didn't do much. Not sure how to test the belt tension but it looks ok, it isn't very loose.

Possibly one or more linear bearings are defective. This would not be the first mini where the bearings are defective after a short time. In this case I would turn to the prusachat.

RE: Y-axis scratching sound
I haven't posted an update in a while but I think I have solved the issue. I removed the bed and checked the bed bearings manually. They didn't show any sound so I was certain it is not that. I then tightened up the bed pulley tension and that seemed to remove the sound.
I think it was the belt was too loose which caused it to rub against the pulley. Hope this helps someone with the same issue.
