M500 control not functional

Hello,

I don't understand! The M500 command does not work on this printer!

I absolutely need to modify the printer's e-steps and even if M92 and M500 are taken into account, whether under Octoprint or Pronterface, when the Mini was restarted it did not take account of the changes.

This means that nothing is recorded in the eeprom! I thought that Prusa was open source, it seems that it is not the case or it is another order on this printer? Is she still under Marlin?

If Prusa does like some Chinese brands (but do not claim to be open-source) it is really a shame! Should we "break" the clamping (shameful and very criticized) of Prusa on the motherboard to record on the eeprom?

I asked the question on the chat, they do not know the M500 command and Pronterface (dummies).

They advised me to send an email that remained unanswered for 10 days despite a return after 5 days!

Deplorable Prusa after-sales service, open-source not really! Prusa's promises are not kept.

Finally if anyone has an idea to help me, thank you very much!

If you want to fix the bug and download new firmware, you can do that.

However, I don't get the connection between a bug with M500 and being Open Source or not. The Prusa version of Marlin is published on github.

The m500 function is deactivated on the mini. You can change this in the firmware, but you may lose the guarantee.

I wonder what process allows the update of firmware, presumably a boot loader. Is source for this available?

@ karl-herbert

I am very disappointed with Prusa's attitude towards the community!

This printer is therefore "restrained" voluntarily, see the order M500! And in addition, there is a physical intervention on the motherboard which voids the warranty if you want to unject a "home" firmware! It is unacceptable and contrary to the speech of Joseph Prusa! Joseph who advocates from its beginnings sharing, reprap, the Prusa community! I fear very much that he has gone on the dark side of the force by privileging his bank account (see the months before receiving his printer already paid!) To the detriment of his customers.

Therefore, in the future I would prefer to favor real reprap and small businesses that are still humble!

I think of "Magma who may deserve to invest in their equipment.

Thank you for your help Karl, but it is clear that I prefer to keep my warranty on this flanged printer! Who basic has no problems> extrude> heatbreak

@serge-d

I'm sorry, that you have such problems with your Prusa printer. Mine has been in operation since 2 1/2 years (MK3S). Of course no longer has a guarantee, which is why I always adapt the firmware myself. If you optimize a lot yourself, it actually works quite well. It takes a lot of time and patience (and some money). For me just a hobby.

In any case, I think it's good that you can adapt the software and firmware to your own needs, which is not the case with most products on the market and you always have to rely on the manufacturer's reactions.

I also have an MK3 (since October 2019) and 5 other printers ... For me, it's almost a passion ... I have always been happy with my Prusa (except the bearings changed by polymer Igus and aluminum rods). But I fear that Prusa's policy has changed and it is very unfortunate ...

For the mini, I already had to change the extrude by a Bondtech as well as the heatbreak also by a Bondtech. Bondtech quickly understood and corrected the faults of the Mini! But the M500 blocked, I have to "reprint" a gcode at each start ... to modify e-steps!

I would contact Prusa and tell them about your upgrade and maybe they send you a customized firmware (M500 enabled).

Great ! Thank you karl!

In fact the e-steps of Bondtech are at 415 and those of Prusa at 325> therefore under extrusion if we do not send a gcode at each start ...

I also had to modify the extrusion speed from 70mm / s to 40mm / s in Prusaslicer otherwise the Bondtech makes too much noise!

I saw somewhere that the M500 command is active for some things but disabled for others (problem of synchronization between Marlin and the prusa "overlay" ... well that's what it says).

In any case, a big thank you for your help!

I´m having the same issue, Bondtech installed and i need to modify start gcode in order to setup properly the E steps. Why they don´t just allow to save in eeprom changes? install again the firmware is not nice...

RE: M500 control not functional

Hello guys... I have the same issue...

Is not only Bondtech, is the PID tune, or the possibility to set the z probe with octoprint.

I have octoprint to manage my printers and without the M500 is like i need to add gcode always to set the steps properly or whatever...

At least prusa should have a way to download a signed firmware that are able to use EEPROM to modify stuff.

@m-12,

the question is whether Prusa will do it. If I had a MINI I would do the simple firmware change myself and recompile it.

I don´t want to lose the "guaranté" breaking the posibility to install firmwares without prusa certificate. This is the reason why i don´t want to simple change firmware compiled by myself. but...

RE: M500 control not functional

New year, still dealing with fallout of this "decision". My prusa Mini is slighting under extruding, so I did a calibration test, then attempted to save the results. The saving did NOT survive reboot, so like everyone else, I am stuck with adding it to the gcode of each print in the slicer...

Frustrating!

Any news regarding this issue?
