M112 when trying to start a print, ran self test and hot end temp goes from ramping to 280 to 0 around ~170C

Trying to figure out what to fiddle with first. I ran a print just fine last night and this morning when trying to start one, the printer disconnected from octoprint and showed M112 on the screen. I have run the self test twice (between power cycles to just be sure) and it starts heating the hot end and print bed together, but the latest one, it hit 167/280 and then flipped to 167/0 while the print bed continued to want to heat to 100. Eventually the test ends as failed with the print bed getting to about 60/100 while the hot end continues to cool.

Is there a way to pull logs other than the crash dump from the printer? Which wires/parts should I be suspect of first?

Thx

Played with this a bit more, the heating is a red herring.

The printer seems to have lost the ability to detect where its z-axis is located. The self test passes if you manually start it at zero, but it never goes back down and then fails if you leave the z-axis up high. This also means when you start a new print, it starts and thinks the z-axis is at 0 no matter where it is actually located which causes the print to fail with the M112 error.

Have you tried resetting the printer?

I spent a good hour or so with live chat and we decided that the MINDA had failed. The z-axis always wanted to move up when calibrating and in various other states. Doing the spinda upgrade install now and crossing my fingers 🙂

That was indeed it. Replacement done and z axis thinks it can go down again.
