Issues with Printing High-Quality Photo and Video Frames on Prusa3D

Hello Prusa3D Community,

I hope everyone is doing well. I'm having some trouble with printing high-quality photo and video frames on my Prusa3D printer and could really use some help.

I've been using my Prusa3D printer for a few months now, mainly for simple prints. Recently, I tried printing photo and video frames to create a personalized collection of family memories. However, the results have been less than satisfactory.

Here are the issues I'm facing:

1. **Blurry Details:** The intricate details on the frames, especially around the edges, are coming out blurry. This is particularly noticeable on frames with intricate designs and patterns.

2. **Layer Lines:** The layer lines are very visible, making the frames look rough and unprofessional. I've tried adjusting the layer height, but it hasn't made much of a difference.

3. **Warping:** Some of the larger frames are warping at the corners, causing them not to sit flat. This is ruining the aesthetic and functionality of the frames.

4. **Color Consistency:** I'm having trouble getting consistent color throughout the print. Some parts of the frame are darker or lighter than others, which looks odd.

My printer settings are as follows:- Layer height: 0.2mm- Print speed: 60mm/s- Infill: 20%- Material: PLA- Nozzle temperature: 200°C- Bed temperature: 60°C

I have cleaned the nozzle and the print bed, calibrated the printer, and tried different brands of filament, but the issues persist.

Has anyone else faced similar problems while printing photo and video frames? Are there any specific settings or techniques that could help improve the print quality? Any advice on how to reduce the visibility of layer lines and prevent warping would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, tips on maintaining color consistency throughout the print would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance for your help😊!

Best regards,

1. **Blurry Details:**

The finest detail with the default nozzle is a function of the default extrusion widh - 0.45mm.

2. **Layer Lines:**

Show us an an example - often the effect can be reduced by changing orientation.

3. **Warping:**

The two main causes of warping are poor adhesion; look up threads on the topic - and drafts, cold drafts cause uneven cooling and uncontrolled thermal contraction.

4. **Color Consistency:**

Usually a filament issue - is is consistent?

I strongly suggest printing on normal paper printer and just using 3d printer to make a frame 😉

See my GitHub and printables.com for some 3d stuff that you may like.

Please save your project as a .3mf file

Files > Save Project as

Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your part and your settings for us to diagnose.

Printing high-quality photo and video frames on a Prusa3D printer can be tricky, especially when dealing with intricate designs and smooth finishes. Many users face challenges like blurry details, visible layer lines, warping, and inconsistent colors—issues that can make the final print look unpolished.

We understand how important clear, high-quality visuals are for printing memories. Fine-tuning 3D printer settings can make all the difference.

Quick Fixes to Improve Print Quality:

Reduce layer height to 0.1mm for finer details.

Lower print speed to 40mm/s to improve precision.

Increase infill to 30% or more for a sturdier frame.

Use an enclosure or draft shield to prevent warping.

Experiment with different PLA brands for better color consistency.

Trial and error in 3D printing is key. Keep refining your settings, and soon you’ll be creating flawless photo and video frames to cherish forever! 🚀🎨

Some materials are also better for post processing.  Some you can vapour smooth that will give you a fine finish.  I have seen it but have not used it.  Do a search on this technique.   There are safety issues that you need to be aware of.  It also depends on your printer and the calibration you have done with the filament you are using.  I have seen prints from a MK4s straight out of the box and they are much better than mine after tweaking.
