Adding patterns to the last layers?

Hello

I am looking an easy way to add patterns on the last layers.

On flat objects....

I can do this in Cad but is there a way to this in the slicer?

Might be faster...if yes which one?

Tnx!

Print Setting>Infill>Top fill pattern. Or am I missing something in your question?

RE: Adding patterns to the last layers?

To do the 3D patterns on the top surface (really any surface) in the slicer, my first attempt would be to find a .svg of a pattern. Move the camera so it's perpendicular to the top surface (numeric keypad 1). Add an SVG part to the object, you'll want the operation either Join or Cut. Note, I haven't found any way to adjust the angle of the sides of the newly applied SVG, so I don't know how to have a pattern with angled sides like knurling. But if you keep the SVG to only a layer or two that shouldn't matter that much.

For more advanced textures, you may need to model them into the part in CAD.

RE: Adding patterns to the last layers?

From that video it seemed to be more concerned with hiding layer lines on sides, not top, and he's using CAD techniques.

So I played a bit with Prusaslicer...

Here's a quick and dirty idea for doing a pattern on top of an object just in Prusaslicer. See attached 3mf.

I basically cut a bit below the  top, then removed the top layers of that part and assigned the desired pattern as infill.  Now, the cut creates parts that sit on top of each other. In that situation, PrusaSlicer doesn't put top layers on the bottom part and as a result you can see the (different) infill pattern of the main part. To deal with that, I made another cut, 1 mm below the top part, and assigned it 100% aligned rectilinear infill.

I suspect there are more elegant ways to do that but it's the best I've come up with.
