@bobstro

Nobody is obliged to do business with you, and any company located outside the US is certainly not subject to your interpretation of the law.

First off, they are rules, not laws. Secondly, if you feel that I am interpreting it incorrectly then please enlighten us as to the "correct" interpretation. As I see it, there is little room for misinterpretation.

You threatened to file complaints with your credit card alleging deceptive practices

I didn't threaten anything, and they aren't deceptive practices, they are practices that are against the rules and regulations. There's a big difference.

Plenty of much larger companies charge consumers for the privilege of going on a waiting list.

Otherwise known as a pre-order, yes. The key distinction here is that those waiting lists have defined dates for shipment. Anything that cannot be fulfilled by that date is by definition re-classed as "backorder", and payment is not executed until goods are shipped.

Yours is listed as pre-order? It may had been pre-order for people within first 6-7 hours of announcement, but my order from 13th was listed as "on backorder" since the beginning. I do not know about CC payment, was money already taken or is it reserved?

BTW they are not raising capital with MINI.

The prusa shop page still says "PRE-ORDER! Production started at the end of November 2019, shipping limited amounts from the initial weekend (mid-October 2019), most orders to be shipped in January - April 2020. New orders in April/May 2020!"

They seem to have confused the difference between "pre-order" and "backorder", which was my whole entire point.

Actually you have confused "pre-order" and "order", they are not the same, "pre-order" is the same as "backorder".

I think we're basically into trolling now though.

What? Let me define it for you, as you seem confused.

"A pre-order is for the item that has not been released till now and will be released in the future or after some time. Backorder is an item that was once in stock, but currently out of stock and will be available in future."

Clearly the Prusa Mini was in stock, as people have already received their orders. Which by definition means that any unfulfilled order is a backorder, which falls under a different set of rules and regulations.

What's your point? Right now you're just wasting energy and poison the discussion.

This is all rapidly becoming pointless, why don't you just cancel and get you're money back.

I'm starting to think this is some sort of a wind up, you throw in terms (eg. "due diligence") which have no meaning in this context. You sir are a troll.

Thanks for the suggestion but that item does not include controller and as shipping is E115 I suspect it's coming from China.

RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

Folks ,

for information, this is a community run support forum, which happens to run on server space provided by Prusa, there is very little policing, and what there is, is mainly provided by volunteers like myself.

posturing on legal niceties achieves little here! apart from upsetting others and bringing out unfriendly responses, Prusa are operating out of the Czech republic, so the legal system in process is likely to be the Czech system. however nobody who normally frequents these pages can accept legal challenges on behalf of Prusa Research.

I have personally had issues with delays, for a number of reasons, and most were sorted out in Chat with the helpdesk.

as it happens, I have been an early adopter a number of times, with Prusa. and yes there have been delays, my delay for the Mk1 MMU upgrade resulted in probably the longest ever delay. and in fact, I didn't ever receive the upgraded MMU 1, in the end, instead, Prusa elevated my order to MMU2 at no extra charge!  this was because they took the view that the proposed MMU1 upgrade was not providing the benefits they had intended, so they stopped development in the old MMU1 platform and moved development onto the MMU2 platform,  the net result was that I got my MMU1 to MMU2 upgrade, some time after the mmu2 early adopters got their upgrades but at no extra cost!

Prusa have always come good for me!  which is much more than I can say for the supplier of my non 'Original Prusa' who ducked and dived and  never resolved issues...

I chose not to adopt the Mini, as it does little to help me, and my limited funds are being kept so that I can consider a larger printer in the future. rightly or wrongly, I am looking for size in the  XY directions in preference to size in the Z, direction, because most of my prints are structural and prints tend to be weaker in the Z direction, so i am waiting to see what the 'Original Prusa XL' offers!

It is my understanding that you have a choice of payment methods when you order,

most folk choose the 'Online Credit card payment' option, but there is nothing stopping you choosing the 'Invoice Payment' option,

I have to say that previously I have chosen the Credit Card option, but next time I will consider the Invoice Payment option, as I understand this does not require immediate upfront payment! those of you, unhappy  with the current experience may wish to do, likewise!

Please remember, you can cancel your orders at any time before the printer is shipped, and get a refund.

Please can we carry on with general chit chat regarding the Mini rollout in this thread, and take legal matters off the forum!

regards Joan

I asked about mine on the same date.  Supposed to ship this week, but that looks suspect now.

Hello to all you waiting. I placed my order od the 24th of December, so I have a long time to wait. I use that time to prepare for for printer (first printer). As I know I can't be at at  printer all the time it prints, I try to find a way how to secure it against disaster events. Such as print failure and and fire. I bought IP cam to be able to watch it from outside of home, then remote controlled socket to be able to turn it iff in case of a failure. Then I'll create auto-off socket connected to a smoke detector and I plan to buy FirePro FP-20 which I l'll connect to a smoke detector. I plan pl create a 50x50x50cm box from drywall panels in a rack in my storage room. What do you think? Could you correct my plans please? I try my best, but I have no experience with 3D printers yet.

These are good thoughts. Smoke alarm is good safety feature, remotely controlled power socket too (I need to get one as well). Remote monitoring can be done with IP cam as in your case or people use Octoprint which supports USB cams (maybe even remote cameras).

Any advice to someone who would set up a smart plug/smoke alarm system? Has anyone attempted to automate it with IFTTT? I have a smoke alarm in the room, but no way to shut it off remotely or automatically in case of an emergency.

RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

most domestic smoke detectors shut themselves off when the smoke dissipates, would you want to shut off the smoke detector whilst smoke was still present?

My normal process is

1 register surprise when the smoke detector 'Alarms'

2 turn off the cooker...

3 clear the smoke...  (disposing of charred food, if necessary)

4 wonder what to order from the takeaway!   Lol...

luckily I have never had a printer related smoke incident.... YET!

but if I did, i would expext to,

1 remove power from printer, either locally or at the main breaker (this is complicated by the UPS in my location)

2, if safe to do so, make the area safe, by isolating the printer in location, or relocating the printer, if not possible, addressing the problem with a suitable fire extinguisher, or calling for professional help!

3 investigate the cause of the issue in a safe manner

4 when resolved, evaluate root cause, and mitigate future repeat instances

5, restore service

or something like that
if you have a UPS it may be worthwhile using two remote switches, one for the printer and one for the UPS

I think what I would love to figure out how to do is set up an if/then scenario where you have a "smart" smoke detector that, when triggered, automatically would shut off the power to the smart plug that the printer would be plugged into. Without electricity, in theory that would mitigate most fire risk. There's obviously still the problem of the fire continuing even after you shut off the printer though.

I am using HomeAssistant to monitor my printer/Octoprint via the Octoprint plug in and a zwave fire alarm.  You can also stream the video from Octoprint to a page in Home Assistant.

HomeAssistant is open source and runs on a RPI3B or better.   I have a zwave dongle connected to the RPI to monitor the smoke alarm and to control the zwave outlet to turn off the power if needed.

You can take actions on the status sensors from Octoprint or the smoke alarm.   It is possible to write scripts using the API in Octoprint to send commands directly to Octoprint.   I have also setup a temperature sensor in my printer enclosure using a  thermometer and connected to HomeAssistant using an ESP8266 chip.   They have really nice tutorials so that you follow along and set it up without a huge learning curve.

Here are the links to home assistant and the octoprint plugin.
