How does one tell which posts are unread?  Didn't they used to be bolded in the topics lists?  Everything looks the same now.

Yes, they used to be bolded in the topics list (even for a day or two with the new forum).

The only way I know now it by looking at the elapsed time since the last post for each topic. And then when looking at the topic I have to go to the end and back up until either I see a post that I don't recognize and/or I look at the date/time stamp of each post to find my first unread post. My memory isn't very good, so that has restricted me to only being able to really pay attention to and participate in 2 of the forums.

Prusa is being very quiet on all the problems of the forum so I have no clue if they recognize this issue and/or if they are working to fix this issue. From what I've heard from the moderators, they also seem to be floating without a paddle. I hope Prusa fixes the forum issues before it simply dies because it is too hard for anyone to actually use.

I'm working around it by logging in, selecting Recent Posts, then wandering through the 1st page or 2 to see what looks interesting. I'm sure I've missed some good stuff that got pushed down a few pages further.

It's a real shame. The "best seller" of all time has been Jeff Jordan's "Life Adjust" thread. The first post was frequently updated to include the lastest versions of his gcode files for Live-Z calibration. Now, without the ability to edit older posts, I guess Jeff is expected to constantly either post new threads, dispersing the useful history of discussion, or append newer versions to the tail-end, forcing users to scroll back through the thread history.

I can only suspect that whoever is responsible for giving the current state of these forums the green light has been resigned to destructive printer testing, printing endless benchies until the nozzle gives out.

No that's not the case.

Jeff is a moderator here, and still has the ability to edit posts.  However, he is now not online very often; like most of us, this is a hobby for him and he currently has more important things to be doing.

If you want something changing, just ask a moderator...  You can do this with a PM, within a post (and hope it gets seen) or as a "Private" topic which is viewable by mods and admins.

Frankly, this is really stupid and so early 90s. This is a must for every forum. My participation has dropped significantly in the last few weeks because of that missing feature. It annoys the hell out of me.

That's unfortunate.  I used to check the old forums almost daily.  These are too difficult to get anything out of.  Hopefully they can get them working better soon.

I also find myself visiting once every week or even 2 instead of daily. I just can't stand being longer than a couple minutes on this forum. Might be because it still needs getting used to, I don't know, but for me it lost almost all its charm.

There is no search feature on forum, and forum is not indexed by google. E.g. site:forum.prusa3d.com returns empty result!

This is a MAJOR omission! I've come here to look for specific information, not spend days reading every single post to find what I want.

RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

So now that PrusaSlicer 2.0.0 is released are they going to give some resources for fixing this cluster of a forum migration?

I've been sticking with it and give them a chance, but the continued non-response from Prusa is beyond ridiculous at this point and the usability problems have gotten old.

  • Inconsistent re-login requirements.
    • I'll be logged in with an old session (like day old) and everything is fine as I browse around, then suddenly I'm forced to login again. Of course when I do it takes me to the top level rather than where I was.
    • I'll have the same issue even though I logged in 10 minutes prior.
    • Again, no indication of session issues, write a post, but then it fails because I need to login. At that point your post is just lost as going back just gives you an empty post box.
      • I can think of at least 6 multi paragraph responses I've typed to help people where that has happened and I ended up not helping them as I was not retyping all that information again.
  • Email being the only notification mechanism for subscribed posts is obnoxious.
  • That you have to remember to subscribe (and then get flooded with emails) to threads you post in is ridiculous. There have been multiple cases where I inadvertently stopped helping someone because I hadn't subscribed and lost track of the thread.
  • There is no indicator as to which threads you have posted in to help you remember which ones you are involved in when scanning the thread lists.
  • Pre-migration quotes and images are still messed up which makes old content confusing if not outright unhelpful.

A few more gripes:

  • Search is unusable. Most of the old content is lost unless you happen to have saved a link.
  • The same goes for looking for our own past posts.
  • The post summaries are confusing.

@Admins: I'm not sure if it was already mentioned. Please check the email server configuration. With the new board you're not sending FQDN in your Helo command. Most of the email server are rejecting such mails:

Bob on your point2 looking for your own past posts, if you go to My Profile at the top and look at Past Activity it shows you a list of topics you have posted to, at least for the new forum iteration.  Agree with everything else though, this forum software is terrible.

I can see everything I've ever posted in the Activity tab. However:

  • I can't do a search limited to my posts.
  • The summaries include a snippet of the text, but not the title of the thread.

So, for example, about 3 months after I joined, I participated in a great discussion on clearing extruder jams. I've got literally 100 pages of posts to wade through, and very little chance that the summary line shown relates to the main discussion. I've effectively lost the entirety of my past participation in the community to lousy search.

RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

Searching for my own posts using Profile - Activity is like looking at a globe from the inside while spinning - aka - totally useless.   I don't care that I posted something yesterday - I want to know - need to know, really - whether anyone has responded AFTER my post and the initial post title.

The idea being if I respond to a post and the other party never replies, I have no reason to go back to that thread.

The old forum showed activity based on thread title, and added detail to show new traffic after my last post.

The user who comes in once, posts for help once every six months and subscribes to their own post will be notified; but for those of us with 50 concurrent conversations the present method for tracking is useless.  Subscriptions just aren't working because I don't want a new email for every post in every thread.  And I defy anyone to tell me the functional difference between HOT, Active, and Replied.

RE: Welcome to our new forum! Feedback here!

The request for "Feedback here!" is a red herring.  They want feedback to go into a dark hole so no one bothers Prusa Employees.

Pretty sure Prusa is done with supporting the forum and regards it as a loss leader.  Their ignorance is a bit surprising considering great support was a selling point others used to persuade me to my initial purchase.  In retro spec, all that "great support" was really other USERS in the old forum.  And what Prusa has done is essentially sink that support system that made their name.

Short sighted on their part ... IMNSHO.

Yay! The bold indicator for a topic that has unread posts is back. Now I just need to figure out how to jump the the last unread post instead of simply jumping to the last post. (If there is a topic that has 53 posts and on a previous session I've read up to post number 46, I still have to scan through the last few posts to find the last one that I read to catch up on the conversation.)
