RE: Super PINDA and other changes coming to the Mini+

I think you are right that it might work better, but I suspect it does work sufficiently with the current firmware.

You're right, when we have the firmware it can be judged if it is better...

I do look forward to sheets with individual z-offset values like on MK3S.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

It makes sense that the new probe doesn’t need new firmware for the Mini, but it must have new firmware for the mk3/s as it is expecting the thermistor signal that the Pinda supplies. The new mk3/s should have a menu option to select if it has a Pinda or a super Pinda, is my guess.

Welp, I was too late. The SuperPINDA was gone within ... probably minutes. I hope real people bought it and we won't see those selling on e-bay for 3 times as much, like other hardware releases this year.

Those who bought it, please report back how it behaves.

or it autoselects.

Highly unlikely it can tell the difference between it and a faulty sensor which gives no signal.

@crawlerin

There was mention on last nights podcast by Joseph about people bulk buying the SuperPINDA and that they have restricted the number people can now have in their baskets.

He also mentioned that they were holding some back for Black Friday 👍

I guess we will soon know.  How do you know the data provided by the SuperPinda is inherently different?

Well there is no thermistor data for a start as it is not wired.

I suspect we will know in a few days.  The new firmware will reveal the facts.  Another selection built into the firmware would create another spot for errors.

Early yesterday there was plenty SuperPindas in the store and I ordered one Mini+ upgrade.

On PrusaLive they mention that they had to limit the number of sensors to only 2 per as many was buying large quantities.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

You will see these on eBay for $50-70.  I bought one.

I think you are right - It is sad that people will profit this way with no regard to the ones that need the new sensor.

I really wish Prusa would get a distribution center in the Americas to prevent this profiteering.

I mean after I received notification e-mail that they are back in stock. Either that was the Black Friday batch, or the e-mail was fluke (or late). But maybe there will be another, if not, I will wait until it's more commonly in stock, probably next year.

They added Misumi bearings to the shop too, 4x the price of standard bearings. I do not know if it's comparable to prices in other places, but spare parts in Prusa shop are traditionally more expensive (whole printer is always cheaper than buying it by parts).

In the UK you can get those Misumi bearings locally for about half the price Prusa charges. Much cheaper again for unbranded ones.

The addition of Misuni is appreciated.  I would upgrade to them when my bearing wear out.

Dont forget these are not just for the Mini.. I guess if you owed 5 or 6 Full sized Prusa's they should be able to match the ordered SuperPinda's with what machines you have.. Bit of Manual work.. but still.. why should people who own Prusa's be punished for extra shipping by limiting the amount of sensors you can have at one time.

My Mini has: A SuperPINDA + Bondtech Heatbreak + Bondtech Extruder installed

Hello,

It's pretty annoying. You receive the email telling that the Mini+ upgrade kit is available, you go to the shop, you add the item to your shopping cart, browse around for a roll of filament.... and by the time you arrive to the checkout the Mini+ upgrade kit is out of stock.

Everything in a matter of few minutes

@lvet

I've set up and received notification few times already today, and always was too late. Guess I'll wait for broader availability.
