Pause Support

Hi Guys, I just received my prusa mini, very excited for it.

I live in Venezuela, a place with a less than ideal power situation, so I want to know about the printer's pause features. I already read on another topic that the power failure recovery is not supported, but I want to know whether I could say, pause a print and turn off the printer and resume it later? I would be putting an UPS in line so in case of a failure I would pause it and resume later.

I understand that I should've purchased a MK3 but the price was very steep and also I cannot just get it shipped here, I have to use forwarding services. So I decided for the MINI.

Thanks for your time!

The power recovery feature works for short term power outrages. It is still being worked on for the mini firmware and will be released.

But the way you are talking about turning the printer off overnight and have it resume the following day, you would run into issues. Lets say it was a MK3s and you pulled the plug on the printer to trigger a power recovery option. The bed would cool down and more than likely the print could release because the bed was cold. If you were to add a holding agent, say glue stick, the same thing could happen if the bed is reheated and the print could release again.

It really is not recommended to power off or trigger a power recovery for a long period of time as you could loose the print, and with the hotend fan not working, heat could crawl up the hotend and cause a clog as well.

Hope this helps.

Damn, I see. Still it is good to hear that the power recovery feature is planned to be released.

The bottom line is that I do not plan to shut it down overnight, but rather that power could go out at any moment! But I appreciate you taking the time to give me insight. I'm not sure how long the printer could last on an UPS, gonna have to order a power meter and check if I could wire up a decent backup.

Thanks again, have a great weekend!
