First layer calibration/setup with bondtech extruder

I wonder how you will go about the first layer calibration and/or setup with the bondtech extruder as it uses different steps from stock extruder.

Similar first layer calib with bigger nozzle. Do you slice your own 1 layer zig-zag pattern for use with the 0.6n for example?

RE: First layer calibration/setup with bondtech extruder

You can load the Bondtech GCode file to set the extruder and/or PID values and then run the built in first layer calibration. You also need to run that file to do a proper filament load/unload. There are several first layer calibration STLs that you can download and slice. Just remember to adjust the first layer height in the slicer settings to be the same as the rest of the layers.

Hope this helps.

RE: First layer calibration/setup with bondtech extruder

I have bondtech extruder and heat break.  First run the first layer calibration to get close z height close so at least the plastic will stick to the bed.  Then I run  50 x 50 0.2 thick rectangle that was sliced using prusa slicer (with custom g-code for estep and PID values for Bondtech)  with 0.2 mm layer height and adjust the live z while its printing to get the final z height.  After I think I have correct z height.  I will run the 50 x 50 again with to make sure z height gives a good first layer.

Thank you both.

I have almost bought the mini kit a few times already, but i'm not 100% as for the first layers calib as it's builtin and requires 0.4 on stock hardware for true calibrations.

And since you need to get the height correct after nozzleswaps as well, it just have me at that hesitant spot.
I would really like to get the mk3 but cat quite afford it, so my thoughts was to get a mini kit and then use it to build a mk3 replica over time.

I dont really do miniatures or decorative (mostly for gifts etc) so i have 0.6nozzle on my current printers.

And now for the OMG what have i done moment after ordering the mini+ preorder kit... 🙂

I'm holding off on the bondtech until machine is shipped. Not sure on the heatbreak, but it's not much extra money when ordering the extruder.

Now i will go out and play in the snow...
