Filament not gripping

Hey fellas!

I received my Prusa Mini+ about a week ago. I got the semi-assembled version and put it together in about an hour - since then I have been stuck.

The problem is I am not able to get the filament to load - it is not gripping it at all. I tried a thousand times now and it just doesn't work for me. I followed the instructions in the manual - make a sharp tip etc.  It doesn't seem to be a complicated thing - perhaps I'm missing something here?

(I should add that I don't have the Filament sensor if that makes a difference)

Cheers

Nick

RE: Filament not gripping

Have you adjusted the idler screw on the extruder?

Thank you for answering fuchsr.

Yes I have tried both tightening up and loosening the screw. It didn't help.

Make sure that you tightened pinion grub screw on flat surface of motor shaft -if not, then pinion will rotate freely.

Thank you for answering BodganH

No I did not tighten this screw - I got the pre-assembled version so I'm assuming it was correctly done.

Do you think I should take it apart anyway? I don't want to jeopardize any warranty here in case this won't get solved.

Even if pre-assembled by Prusa, it can happen, that grub wasn't tightened correctly and to take extruder apart is the only way to be sure. And your warranty will still be valid (unless you break something).

RE: Filament not gripping

it is not gripping it at all

When you push it in, do you feel the filament reaching the gears? And therefore feel like an obstruction? You should be able to feel this, and when you tell the printer to load the filament you may need to nudge it in a bit more until the gears catch it.

It sounded obvious to me at first, but when I did it the first time it wasn't, I thought if I pushed it any more it may break something.

I got it to work finally!

Thanks a lot guys for you suggestions. Not sure what the actual problem was- nevertheless happy to be able to start printing now! 🙂

Have a great weekend
