4.3.2-RC2 Firmware for Original Prusa MINI/MINI+

Hello we are pleased to announce an update (phase 2) of the release candidate for the 4.3.2 firmware for the prusa mini;

Summary

  • FatFs library upgrade
  • Saving of self-test results

This is the second release candidate of the upcoming firmware 4.3.2. The current focus is on bug fixes related to the USB Flash drivers.

FatFs library upgrade

Compared to the previous release RC1, this build brings an upgrade of the FatFs library, which is supposed to fix synchronization issues of accessing the file system.

FatFs library has been upgraded from R0.12c to the latest version of R0.14b. The most important change is the fix of synchronization issues related to accessing the FAT file system. Please see the release notes of the FatFs library for details, where the synchronization fix is also discussed.

This also fixed several reported situations of BSOD after the removal of the USB drive from the MINI and MINI+.

Moreover, to improve the quality of testing of the USB drivers and file system fixes, we designed an automated device that simulates various edge cases while inserting and/or removing a USB drive. The testing device helped us to verify that the fix works as expected.

Please let us know if you still encounter problems with the USB drives.

Saving of self-test results

The upgrade of the FatFs library also brings back the possibility of saving results of self-tests onto the USB drive (if present), which has been removed in previous versions due to random file system-related problems.

How to flash the firmware on MINI:

  1. Copy the firmware file (.bbf) onto the USB drive with FAT32 formatting
  2. Insert the flash drive in the MINI's USB port
  3. Turn the printer ON (or reboot it)
  4. A new screen will appear Confirm you want to flash the firmware

As always, we wish you happy printing and look forward to your feedback!

Stealth Mode

Any updates on "Stealth Mode" for the Mini?

I'm not seeing any response from the developers on github.

RE: Field Test - 16 machines, 112 prints

I downloaded, changed, and flashed my rack of 16 minis with 4.3.2 RC2 and ran a 112 print test. My machines are modded with E3D hotends, the MK3S+ Extruder (R6), and is controlled via OctoFarm (16 x Raspberry Pi 3B on LAN).

Out of 112 prints, I had 8 failures. Most machines were run at 80% capacity or better until today. Average print size was between 60 and 120 grams per print.

1 - Clogged Nozzle

1 - Extruder hobbed bolt alignment

6 - Random Serial Disconnects

Random serial disconnects: In almost all 6 cases the machines had been running for a week without power cycle or reset. A power cycle of both pi and Mini cleared the issue. In every case, the machine had completed between 5-7 prints before the serial disconnect issue manifested.

Overall, I got a 93% success rate out of the rack. Not bad, but still not good enough. I get around 99% with my rack of MK3S+.

I'm going to run another 100 print test, this time power cycling the pi and mini after harvest to try and see if this is a memory leak issue.

On another note. I had at least 10 prints saved by the integral filament sensor of the MK3S+ extruder. I did not have a single runout/airprint event in this test.
