How to pick up CHCKX

There is a new filament vendor on Amazon with rock bottom prices for filament. The vendor is CHCKX which I suppose could be pronounced as "chicks..." Example PPS-CF is $40/kg ???  PPA-CF is $24/kg ???  These filaments are normally 3-4x this cost per kilo. They also have PCTG (my go to PETG replacement) for $21/kg!!

I decided to "take one for the team" and pick up a few rolls. I'll test it and report back.

And free shipping with Prime! Not much shows up in an Amazon search- you have to go to the CHCKX store in Amazon to see what they've really got. I haven't tried PCTG but at those prices I might give it a go.

I've been running calibration and test prints with PCTG black and this filament (so far) is really good. Especially for the price. It prints clean with zero stringing. Next up is PPA-CF and PPS-CF however will need to print those on the H2D since I can't on a Core One.

I'll provide my calibration parameters for PCTG on a Core One for various nozzles later to today. At $20/kg I think I found a winner.

Only one negative so far (which is funny). I popped PPA-CF and PPS-CF in the dryer for 12 hrs at 85°. The labels on the spool were thermal printing. So guess what happened after 12 hrs in the dryer? The labels are now completely black 🤣 At least they were smart enough to make the spools from PC.

Since the like button seems to be broken, along with editing, consider this my "like"!

It seems broken for everyone right now. From what I can see it's CloudFlare blocking IP addresses.

So far here is the result of my testing:

  • PTCG - it's a nice filament. prints well with no stringing, decent overhangs and bridging. I've attached a calibrated profile for a 0.4mm HF nozzle
  • PPS-CF - This is crap and will be returning it. It will not print decently on an H2C with maxed out nozzle and chamber. Layer adhesion is crap and it's super brittle. I'm not even sure the primary polymer is PPS. It is very different from my Fiberon and Bambu PPS-CF spools.
  • PPA-CF - Will test later today but have a feeling it's going to be as bad as the PPS. Will report back

... still can't edit posts... For the first filament it is PCTG... for some reason I keep misspelling it.

Glad to hear about PCTG as my spool should be arriving tomorrow.

I’m returning the PPS and PPA-CF. They are not what they appear to be. The PPS-CF in particular appears to be ABS based. I was also able to snap it in half vertically across the layer lines. The PPA-CF even after 12 hrs in the drier still prints dirty and the coloration is off. It seems to resemble PA6-CF. The company does not have a website and there are no TDS sheets available.

On the other hand the PCTG seems to be legit. It has the same shrinkage and print characteristic as my 3D-Fuel rolls.

Indeed, PPS/PPA-CF at  these prices seemed too good to be true. Not surprising after all that the stuff is not what they say it is.

I can't find this brand on European Amazon sites, It must be available at Amazon USA only

OK, after carefully calibrating and printing a series of test prints with PPA-CF, I can conclude it is also garbage. Here is a Benchy with Siraya Tech PPA-CF and CHCKX PPA-CF. Both spools went into the same dryer at 85° for 12 hrs. Both printed on the same printer and nozzle. Conclusion, the PPA-CF is crap and will be returned.

IMHO, that benchy is not seaworthy.

My PCT-G just arrived and I'll test it later. Right now I'm printing o-rings from TPE-83A, which I noticed has gotten a lot more expensive than a few weeks ago.

It's tempting to tie this into rising oil prices because of the Iran mess but everything is strange right now. Case in point, I'm flying to the East Coast next month and was expecting my plane ticket to be ridiculously expensive (i.e. rising fuel costs). Instead it's half the price of what it was last year... Go figure...

That's surprising. I had some simple disks to print, about 2" x 0.2", no special material requirement so I used the PCTG and your settings. Really nice, a bit better than if I had used PETG. I did give it a good few hours in the dryer before use. We'll see if it remains available at a good price. Thanks for the heads up!

PCTG in general is just better than PETG. I don’t bother with PETG any more. Until recently, the biggest downside of PCTG was lack of colors and price. Seems a lot more vendors are getting involved and a lot more color choices. Also 3D-Fuel fluorescent orange is very similar to Prusament orange. About the same price though.

I did some more tests on the “PPA-CF” and I’m pretty sure it’s PA6-CF in disguise. I also had another look at the PPS-CF and I suspect it is PP-CF. The density is too low for PPS.

I noticed that your settings for PCTG have the bed at 80C, higher than the recommended 50-70. I tried some thin parts down at 60 and they warped like crazy. Back to 80 and no problem. As Mark Knopfler said to Chet Atkins, "you've played before."

Yep, I use the BIQU Cryogrip plates and I find PCTG sticks better with a slightly higher temp. I picked up a roll of their PCTG orange. It's similar enough to Prusa Orange that I have to squint to tell the difference.
