A new version of Filament-DB has been released: https://github.com/hyiger/filament-db/releases/tag/v1.10.0

Filament DB v1.10.0

Bambu Lab NFC Spool Reading

You can now tap your Bambu Lab filament spools on the ACR1552U reader and Filament DB will automatically read them. The app detects whether a tag is OpenPrintTag or Bambu and handles both seamlessly — no configuration needed.

Bambu spool data (material type, color, nozzle/bed temperatures, weight, production date, filament length) is extracted and mapped into the same matching and import flow as OpenPrintTag. If the filament isn't in your library yet, hit "Create New Filament" and the form is pre-filled with everything from the tag.

Bambu tags are RSA-signed so they're read-only — the app shows a "read-only" badge to make this clear. OpenPrintTag read/write continues to work exactly as before.

Bed Types

A new Bed Type entity lets you define your print surfaces — Smooth PEI, Textured PEI, G10/FR4, Glass, etc. Manage them from the Settings page alongside Nozzles and Printers.

Expanded Calibrations

Calibration entries are now keyed by printer + nozzle + bed type instead of just printer + nozzle. Within each calibration you can now also store:

Temperature overrides — nozzle, nozzle first layer, bed, bed first layer, chamber

Fan settings — min speed, max speed, bridge speed

Top-level filament temperatures remain as manufacturer-recommended defaults. The per-calibration overrides are what you've actually dialed in for a specific printer/nozzle/bed combination.

The calibration API also accepts a
bed_type
parameter so PrusaSlicer Filament Edition can fetch bed-type-specific values.

Filament DB is a desktop app for managing your 3D printing filament collection. It stores: material type, temperatures, color, density, retraction settings, per-nozzle calibrations.

The data lives in MongoDB Atlas (free tier), so it's accessible from any machine. You can share a connection string and everyone works from the same filament library.

Getting your filaments installed

There are two ways to populate the database:

PrusaSlicer config bundle: Export your config bundle from PrusaSlicer and import it. All your filament profiles come in with their full settings intact.

OpenPrintTag NFC tags: Place a tagged spool on an NFC reader and the app reads it automatically. If the filament already exists in your database, it pulls it up. If it's new, you can create an entry with all the fields pre-filled from the tag.

Writing NFC tags

From any filament's detail page, you can write its data to an NFC-V tag. Place a tag on the reader, click "Write NFC," and the filament's properties are encoded to the OpenPrintTag spec and written to the tag. Stick the tag on your spool and any OpenPrintTag-compatible app or printer can read it.

You can also export the binary as a .bin file if you prefer to write tags with other software.

Hardware for NFC

ACS ACR1552U USB reader/writer

PC/CS Driver Installer

NXP ICODE SLIX2 tags (ISO 15693 / NFC-V, 320 bytes)

OpenPrintTag

NFC is optional — the app works fine without a reader.

Open source: filament-db
