Random seams vs. vasemode
Hi!
i can‘t get this print right.
I printed it with random seams in 3Dbuddy PLA rose ( and also in galaxy black with the same effect but not shown in the pics) and have a lot dots in the print.
I then switched to vase mode (Prusamenr PLA galaxy black) and have a perfect finish but holes in the head and spout.
I assume the dots are not because of moist filament otherwise the vasemode would look ugly as well. the filament was also fresh out of the foil and dried.
So: How do I get this right?
1) Is it possible to print it without vase mode and without dots?
2) Is it possible to print the lower part with vademode and then change to regular for the head?
thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
Marc
RE: Random seams vs. vasemode
Can't help with vase mode, I hardly ever print ornamental objects, so very little experience in that arena.
The dots are your seam, so no, if you choose random seams you'll get the dots. You can spend hours fiddling with retraction settings—and will still get dots.
If I had to print this, I would probably use the paint-on seams tool to put the seam on the belly of the bird and then sand the result. Or try the Scarf Seam options in the newer versions of Prusaslicer. I just have to say that in my hands I didn't find it too compelling but this may be model dependent.
Or print it in ASA and vapor-smooth it for 30 minutes with acetone ( https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/heres-how-i-vapor-polish-my-asa-and-abs-prints-without-losing-dimensional-accuracy-or-fine-detail/

RE: Random seams vs. vasemode
Experiment with scarf seams. There are in PS now. I've used them on some shafts with good results. I haven't really played with tweaking the settings, but I've seen a few videos where the seams were nearly invisible.
You can't compare vase mode to a regular print for seams. With vase mode there are no seams because it's one continuous extrusion, hence why you end up with the holes in the top because you can't print that steep of an overhang without infill, and that would require the extruder to lift and move giving you a seam.

Hey you two!
thanks for your input!
I‘ll try paint seams and the scarf seams.
I‘ll post an update.
