Problems printing Prusament PLA Blend filament

Just last week I purchased 2 spools of Prusament PLA Blend (Royal blue & Lime Green). Although I’m really happy with the colours and they way they look, I’m having problems printing with them.

Here’s my problem: when printing a curved surface these rough spots appear. They’re not all over my print but randomly scattered. I think this qualifies as over extrusion but I’m not sure. I’ve always used Prusament PLA & PETG to my great satisfaction: no problems whatsoever. The PLA Blend, even though I use the specific PLA Blend setting in Prusaslicer, keeps giving me problems.

I also noticed that when I purge the extruder of these filaments, the resulting thread coming out is much thicker then with other (non-PLA Blend) filaments.

Has anyone experienced this, or has had similar experiences in the past ? Any help would be greatly appreciated

RE:

In the past I tried three PLA blend colors:  Oh-my-gold, Royal Blue and Pearl white  and that was enough for me. These three are the only Prusa filaments that I didn't like at all. Although I had no particular problems during the printing jobs, the parts were awfully brittle ( specially '0h-my-gold' ). Also they warp much more than any other PLA I've ever printed, Prusa or other brands,

Like you, I noticed  that when I push the filament down the hotend with a steel rod, instead of dropping from the nozzle in a thin long thread like regular PLA, this blend material retracts upwards very fast as it cools down, forming a sort of cocoon that hangs from the tip of the nozzle. Really weird.

I don't know what Prusa was thinking when they released PLA blend, because the results are disappointing. I wouldn't get another spool of this stuff even if they gave it for free.

Thnx for your reply and comments! I've been using a 25gr sample of Oh My Gold PLA Blend and oddly enough, it doesn't show the same behaviour like the Royal Blue and Lime Green. But then again, the Lime green shows less probleems then the Royal Blue. So it appears it colour related as well as material related...I'd have to run some further test because the part shown in the picture is pretty curved, so maybe geometry is part of the equation as well...

Some post on the internet (with other filament brands) advise to prints Silks at lower speeds. Do you (or anybody else) have experiences with that ?

Thnx, Martin
