Warped & Separated Prints
Hello, I am trying to print the structures below, but I am experiencing various print quality issues such as layer separation & warping at the base.
This print is at a 0.3 mm layer height, which is necessary for research reasons. Infill is set to 100%, and the print temperature is 230°C with E-sun PLA+ & base temp of 60°C.
In the past, I found that the semi-circles on the sides prevent warping on other printers, so I am unsure why it is doing that on the MK4s.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you:)
RE: Warped & Separated Prints
A few things I'd try:
- turn the whole 90 degrees. The bed goes back and forth and will swing the structures on the smallest side, possibly contributing to (partial) detach.
- use a full skirt and not just two half circles
- print one at a time (will probably shave the total time of print as well)
RE: Warped & Separated Prints
What you’re printing is kind of a worst case scenario for warping. Here are a few tips that may help.
Lower the extrusion temperature to the low end of the range, probably about 200 or maybe even 190. The hotter it is, the more it expands when being applied, and the more it contracts (warps) when it cools back down.
Raise the bed temperature to 70 to aid with adhesion.
Slow down the print speed. Choose a structural profile, rather than speed, and consider reducing the max volumetric setting as well.
Print with a brim or raft.
Avoid cool drafts during the print. You don’t need to enclose it, but do keep the drafts to a minimum.
As the OP said, align the parts “North/South” instead of “East/West” to minimize swaying with the motion of the bed.
Good luck! 3D printing is still more art than science!
