MK4S Upgrade and new MMU3 Kit

Hello

I've ordered two Original Prusa MK4 to MK4S upgrade kit's for my two Original Prusa MK4's.

I'm also considering ordering your Original Prusa MMU3 upgrade kit for one of the MK4's.

My concern is that it appears both the MMU3 Kit install and the MK4 > MK4S Upgrade Kit install, modify the Nextruder .

So which mod takes precedence?

How do I know what mods to the Nextruder to make?

Or is the current MMU3 a bad idea for the MK4S

RE: MK4S Upgrade and new MMU3 Kit

Hello,

I am wainting as well for my upgrade kit but i allready have the MMU3 installed on my MK4 and what i can say its that the modifications made during the installation of the MMU3 are mandatory.

They are meant to basically insure that your idler and filament sensors become more reliable for all thoose filament changes.

So i think you will have to prioritise them but, i am pretty sure that the installation instructions from Prusa will be crystal clear about that.

Lets wait and see

Regards, Axel

I just bought the MMU3 for my MK4 and haven’t gotten around to installing it yet. If I upgrade the MK4 to MK4S what do I need to buy to upgrade my MMU3 to be able to use it on the MK4S?

Good news - you should be able to use your MMU3 as-is on the MK4S if you have already installed it on the MK4. https://help.prusa3d.com/guide/9a-mk4-nextruder-mod_683106 (see comments on section 1)

Prusa is MK4 w/ MMU3 (formerly MK3S+/MMU2), 2 Prusa MINI+, Octoprint

Thanks @happykatz.

An MMU3 hasn't been install yet, in fact I haven't ordered it yet. However, the MK4 > MK4S upgrades have been ordered.

RE:

I have the Mk4S upgrade on order.

Interesting to note though that if you have a Mk4 with MMU3, the new high flow nozzle in the Mk4S upgrade kit will be of little benefit:

From Prusa:

The high-flow nozzle in the MK4S allows faster printing, however, together with the MMU3, the standard nozzle makes much more sense. While it works with a high-flow nozzle, the increased volumetric flow results in higher filament waste during printing. In other words, the MMU3 delivers the best performance, the same speed and the highest efficiency (lowest waste) when combined with the standard nozzle in both MK4 and MK4S.

Just saying. I have been VERY happy with my MMU3.
Can't imagine going back.

One thing is printing different colors. That's neat. I do that quite a bit.
But the last couple of weeks, most of my use have been with different types of filament. i.e. mixing PLA, PETG and TPU.
Yes. TPU. I reliably print TPU too - all that required was to loosen the idler a tiny bit.

Ah, thanks Steve.

I see Prusa has made available a MMU3 kit specifically for the MK4S, with the information you posted.

I'm going to go ahead and order the MMU3 upgrade kit (for MK4S/MK3.9S).

RE: MK4S Upgrade and new MMU3 Kit

Seconding MJ here - I love the MMU3.

I spent countless hours tuning my MMU2 for PETG on my MK3S+, then upgrading and dialing in my MMU3 on the MK3S+, only to install the MMU3 with my MK4 and find that everything suddenly just ... works.

It's like the very early days of automobiles - in the beginning owning a car meant having a garage and the ability to change a belt, fix a crank, time a piston... and then one day automotive technology advanced to the point where cars just kinda worked, and you could spend your time thinking about where you want to go.

This is what the MK4 / MMU3 combo feels like now. All you really need to think about now is what you want to print with it.
