MK4 first layer adhesion issues
I thought I had seen some posts about this, but search didn’t find them. The bed adhesion for the Mk4 is pretty crappy, especially considering that I have zero problems with my XL. That puts down first layers that the Mk4 never would be able to. They both are Nextruders, why the issues? It seems the Mk4 prints about 50-100microns too high?
It isn’t the sheets. When I dial in my MK3s the same sheets do fine.
It seems it is all kinds of sheets- smooth, satin, PA.
The first layer isn’t horrible, but even small items end up having adhesion issues after a mm or two. Did I see that some people just tweak the height adjustment for the first layer to get it to print closer to the bed? I thought this was a fairly common issue, and I right about that? Input Shaper just seems to make these issues worse. I have a few other Prusa printers (Mini, MK3s, XL) and I’ve kind of just stopped using the Mk4 because, well, it sucks.
I think I have the kit to upgrade to the MK4s, does that make a difference?
With the old styles before bed leveling I was maniacal about getting everything physically flat and square. The Mk4 passes all its tests, but is there a better test to make sure that this thing is set right?
It’s just weird that I can dial in my two Minis for layer height really fast now. I really wanted the Mk4 to be able to swap materials and print beds fast, and I’ve never been able to get it to fulfill that.
RE: MK4 first layer adhesion issues
I've upgrade both my MK3S printers to MK4 then MK4S. One of them has been upgraded to CoreOne. I've had zero problems with bed adhesion on the MK4S. As I recall I didn't have them as MK4's very long before the S came out and I upgraded. I think the MK4S upgrade is pretty good. I'm still out on the coreone upgrade. It's why I still have a core one upgrade sitting in the box until I'm completely happy I don't lose any capability. TPU printing, particularly the soft stuff like ninjaflex is super problematic on the core one.
I agree my 5T xl has become pretty solid of the three printers I have. I just got a solid profile for it for ninjaflex again and I'm currently trying to get chinchilla to behave. The MK4S though, is pretty awesome. I love that you can still get to everything easily unlike with the core one.
I'd do the MK4S upgrade if I were you
