RE: Keep getting a filament stuck message on my MK4S

Yes, raising the temp helps slightly but only delays the problem, if you are lucky. Printing with PLA+, I've tried going up to 250 which is the upper recommended limit, and it still got the filament stuck error.

I've swapped the nozzle for a brand new one from Prusa and the problem went away completely. The previous nozzle only had about 20-30hs of printing with PLA, PLA+ and PETg, but after removing it and comparing it with the new one is shows signs of deformation around the hole. I have really no idea how that could happen, but it was obviously the cause of the problems. Filament was overextruding, leaving uneven layers that would then jam the filament when trying to print the next layer.

That's odd. No abrasive or silk filaments?

I've easily got over 1000 hours on the same nozzle printing PETG and it still looks pretty new other than being discolored.

Things like this are why I never mix filament types in nozzles. Rightly or wrongly, I just feel that getting different types of filament mixed up in a nozzle will lead to clogs. Luckily, with the advent of really easily swappable nozzle assemblies, I can begin to expand from just PETg to other types of filament.

Also, a distorted nozzle could easily come from the printhead hitting the build plate at some point. You many not have even noticed when it happened. Glad to hear the new nozzle fixed the problem.

Yes, no abrasive filaments, only PETg and PLA.

The nozzle did hit the build plate a few times at one point, because the thumbscrews were loose and it messed up with the loadcell. It damaged the PEI sheet noticeably on a few spots, so it might have been it. I guess maybe this combined with some particular defect on the nozzle that somehow passed quality checks? I don't know.

Same issue here, with Gridfinity bins in particular. I tried switching out the nozzle for the non-HF nextruder 0.4mm nozzle but see the same thing. I turned off stuck filament detection and now the prints finish, but there’s what looks like pretty severe overextrusion on the first few layers of the bin walls, particularly in the corners. It’s so bad that even with PLA and PETG, I’m getting warping on those corners, with them being pulled up and off the build plate(and there seems to be lots of stress on the top surface of the base, from those corners pulling it up).

At this point, I’m suspecting either a firmware or slicer issue. Unfortunately, debugging it will get really expensive really fast, with so much wasted filament.

Try raising the nozzle temperature?  Maybe 10 degrees.  Excessive back pressure on the extruder can cause this message.

It won't help with warping.  You'll either have to add a brim, or alter the part geometry to help with the warping.

RE:

Well, the warping bit is strange. It doesn’t look like something that’s happening for the normal reasons. On the MK4, I only ever saw warping with ASA/ABS, but these prints were PLA and PETG, and they were Gridfinity bins, which I printed plentifully in PETG before the upgrade without issues.

That said, one more variable that I haven’t checked: prior to the upgrade I was using Prusament but these were using Buddy3D(I ordered a bunch of rolls with the upgrade and wanted to try them). I’m surprised it’d perform so poorly, though.

Oh, and I did try raising the temperature, no dice.

Update: Looks like at least in my case it was (at least partially) the planetary gears. I re-ran the alignment and now it’s printing fine. No warping or any other issues.

If it can help someone, I just have the same issue. We spent 2h with support, and so far :

- I cannot print in .28 draft because it fails

- I cannot use "grid" because each time the nozzle "bump" on a small amount of pla that he deposited before, I considers it to be a filament stuck and stop printing.

So If I stay in rectilinear and in .25 max, it prints.

I started getting this too, but when it happens, I also hear a lot of banging, like the nozzle is whacking something on the print. I can feel plastic zits on the print and there’s buildup on the nozzle. I’m presuming something not quite right in the calibration is spurting out too much, and when the nozzle drags across that the load cell causes a freak out.

When someone asks you if you're a god, you say, "YES!"

RE:

Raise the nozzle temperature about 10 degrees. Looks like underextrusion.

I bet if you watch your nozzle temperature you'll see it dropping in fast sections.  Raising the temperature will help mitigate this.
