Improve the Mk4S
Hi all,
I made my first Reprap over a decade ago, from hardwareshop parts, chinese electronics, endstops with flags etc. Now i own a MK4S. Yes i did consider a Bambu but made a clear choice to continue with Prusa and i am happy i did. However, i hope that not all the focus shifts to the Core One and the engineers continue to improve the MK4S also. And i think there are some improvements thinkable. The main is the cooling ventilator on the front of the Nextruder. First of all it cools so good that i get a temperature runaway. When i print a temp tower for PETG on the center of the build plate (Satin) the blower prevents the bed from reaching its temperature. It should reach 90 decrees but the blower gets it to 80 and the printer fails with an error. Frustrating. I found the solution to reposition the temp tower to the front right of the build plate but it should not be necessary.
Many people complain about the position of the ventilator. And rightly so. Nozzle tip is not visible anymore and that is what a lot of customers don't like. I have seen some remarks it is not possible to choose another position i.e. the back because it limits the x and maybe z movement. That is true when you just mount it in a similar way on the back. However, why not choose for turning the ventilator 90 degrees and make another duct for the air? I am not a mechanical engineer but it might be worthwhile to check?
Anyway mostly happy with my Mk4S. I will not go to the CoreOne because of space limitations, I have no free access to the right side to change spools. And i think the MK4 S is a good printer and can become a great printer!
All the best from Netherlands,
Dick
