When will the MK4S support the MMU3
According to the Prusa website and Prusa tech support the MK4S upgrade for the MK4 is NOT compatible with the MMU3.
I have need nothing from Prusa indicating whether they are working on this or not. I have the following quesitons:
- Is Prusa working on this?
- If yes, do we have a time frame?
- Will future MK4/MK4S upgrades include the MMU3?
- Is the MK4/MMU3 a dead end product?
Considering how long Prusa took to release the MMU3 for the MK4 one would think they would be sensitive to MK4/MMU3 owners and provide information in the MK4S upgrade release.
Prusa, please don't forget those of us who have an MK4 with an MMU3.

What are you talking about? Did you even go to the eshop and read the MK4S description?
RE: When will the MK4S support the MMU3
The first time I chatted with Prusa Tech Support Ivan told me that you could not use the high flow nozzles with the MMU3, it would cause stringies and other issues.
The second time I chatted with Prusa Tech Support Alfredo told me something different. Here is what he said (this are his words not mine):
so, to sum up, mmu3 is compatible with the mk4s, the standard nozzle is recomended to lower the waste, by but the high flow nozzle will also work, there is a prusa slicer profile for the mmu3 mk4 with high flow nozzle
I reinstated my upgrade order on his advice.
RE: When will the MK4S support the MMU3
I appreciate the clarification and now I will eventually order the upgrade, I am just not rushing to do it. The original Prusa MK4 to MK4S still lists mmu3 as, "not compatible with", but now I believe that is incorrect.
RE: When will the MK4S support the MMU3
I understand it is rather the hi-flow nozzle that does not work well with the MMU than the printer itself. The hi-flow hotend is larger and it has a more complicated filament flow. Thus the nozzle type needs a lot more purging, which would make multiple materials operation a wasteful and slow operation. With an MMU a standard nozzle would work better.

!! THIS !!
Talking to a Prusa tech the key here is that is you will see a lot more purge on filament change with the HF nozzle, but it work just fine.
Now the key to deciding where to use the standard or HF nozzle comes down to your model and where you are using different colors (b/c let's face it if you want true multi-material, you are an XL user), how often you change color and how far up the layer stack you are doing so.
I typically make functional parts, and I use a color changes to emboss something onto the model e.g. a pattern - like this one: https://www.printables.com/model/35457-compact-weekly-pill-box. I then print the rest using the same color.
In this case I makes a ton of sense to use the HF nozzle to gain the printing speed it provides, but requires that I ensure the right orientation of the model in the slicer (meaning that the embossing is facing down towards the build plate), as that means the slicer will only create a wipe tower for the first few layers.
Conversely -- if I had the color change in the model facing away from the build plate, or I had multiple color changes evenly spaced out throughout the model - the slicer creates a wipe tower of a height equal to the model. In this case the large purging need of the HF nozzle is not just wasteful, but also slower as there is more wipe tower to print, and thus the standard nozzle makes a ton more sense.
So the reality is - the choice between HF and standard nozzle with a MMU, comes down to how you orient/slice/print models and what/where you use color changes.

I just looked a the MK4 --> MK4S Upgrade Kit page on the store and it's says it is compatible with the MMU3.

RE: When will the MK4S support the MMU3
Is there any update on this? can MK4S work with MMU3 or not yet?
RE: When will the MK4S support the MMU3
Using the MK4S with the MMU3 for weeks now. No issues at all. It is fully compatible!
Not using the HF-nozzle. There is no speed difference between the HF and original nozzle with the MMU, but the original nozzle saves filament.
RE: When will the MK4S support the MMU3
MK4S and MMU3 work fine now. Just KEEP the Nextruder Mainplate and Idler changes for the MMU3. The mainplate and idler components that come with the MK4S upgrade are not needed with the MMU3. The MMU3 parts have already been stiffened and made with higher heat capable materials.
I may not use the HF nozzle much, until my diamond nozzle supplier makes one. I do like eliminating some of the supports since overhangs can be at a larger angle now.
RE: When will the MK4S support the MMU3
My MK4s and MMU3 are working great today. Doing a four color print and the quality is better than the MK4 in that I have way less stringing than before with this PETG print.

With the standard nozzle?

I use this nozzle adapter: https://www.prusa3d.com/product/nextruder-v6-nozzle-adapter/ with triangle labs .4mm nozzles. Works solid.

General consensus is that the MMU3 will work with the MK4S but you'll get more filament wastage with the HF nozzle, so it's recommended to use the standard nozzle for multicolour printing.
Tempted to pick one up - its just the amount of space needed that puts me off.......
Possible new build series on the MMU3 in the works????....... 😉

Loved your build series. Already built my MMU3, but haven't connected it up yet as I'm dreading the calibration.
