MK4S -> CoreOne conversion pros/cons

I’ve got a conversion kit ordered, but I’m still a little undecided about whether I want to go through with it.

I ordered the MK4S + MMU kits during the C1 rollout, as a stopgap until the C1 became available.  After the initial learning curve, I’m really really happy with the 4S.  So I’m leery about giving it up for a C1.  If I had room for both I’d build a C1 kit, but that’s just not an option for me.  Nor is there room to add an enclosure.

Just wondering what other people are thinking.

I've got one on order as I want to be able to print ASA (for outside use) and it seems a better option for that than an enclosure.

RE:

I see a few possible reasons you may want a conversion kit:

- Unhappy with your Mk4S. Doesn't apply to you (but was a primary driver for me)

- Seeing the Mk4S as an evolutionary dead end street and wanting to be well-positioned to whatever comes next. May or not be relevant to you. Prusa will continue to support the Mk4S for many years to come, so you're not stuck with a dead product (yet).

- You want an enclosure. If you print mostly PLA or PETG, really no reason for it. You may be able to print small parts in ASA or PC-CF etc on a Mk4S without an enclosure or with some kind of makeshift enclosure but the Core One with its passively heated enclosure will make it much easier

- You *love* to tinker and just can't resist buying another kit… Well, you know if you're that person

- Out of Haribos. Well, every grocery store or Walmart in the US now has Haribos, much cheaper than a kit.

But all in all, the Core One is not really a paradigm shift the way, say, the XL is. I'm still happy with my Mk3.5, Prints like a charm. If the Mk4S works great for you and none of the points above apply, there's really no reason to get the kit. My main reason is I just don't want to deal anmore with the bad first layer issue all my Mk4S's are showing and I hope–probably naively–converting them to Core One will fix it. I had only a week or so with my new (pre-assembled) Core One before I left the cold north for a couple of months in the sunny south but I didn't notice any issues with the first layer with it.

RE: MK4S -> CoreOne conversion pros/cons

I cancelled my upgrade. Primarily because my MK4s is already in an enclosure and runs really well. I still want it, but am going to wait a bit.

I want to make sure the Core 1 is properly sorted.

Who's to say a Core 1S upgrade isn't 8 months away? I would likely just add a Core 1S printer to MK4s if that were to happen.

Unless a 4Ks + upgrade comes first......... Maybe they add the rear mounted cooling fan......

How many 6 month waiting lists can a guy be on at one time? Loving Prusa can be torturous at times.
