Filament stuck error when not stuck
I'm using a MK4s with the 2.9.0 slicer. I have a long (19 hour) but not particularity difficult print. It's essentially a stool being printed with the flat seat on the print bed and the legs sticking up. I started the print, went to bed and woke up to find that the print stopped with a filament stuck error while printing the seat. At this point in the print this is literally just a disk. I looked at the extruder and it looked fine. I tried to reload the filament. I removed the filament but the software was convinced that it was still there. At this point, the software didn't give me any choice but to reset and start again. That's what I did. I woke up the next day to find the exact same error at the exact same point in the print. I tried to reload the filament but again was told to remove the filament after I had removed the filament. I don't think that's a coincidence. I've since resliced the model and started again. In every case, the print starts just fine. The print hasn't gotten to the point of the previous failures to know if that fixed the problem. Has anyone had this happen to them? Is this a known problem? Any idea what the problem is?

RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
Hi Jim,
I believe the Mk4 uses the 'missed step' (Stall guard) feature to identify stuck filament you can turn stuck filament check off...
I think you can also change the drive current to a higher level, which may help.
With earlier printers I found that reducing the default retraction to a smaller value also stopped random stuck filament events. I used to use 0.4mm instead of the normal 0.8mm retraction.
Do you get a build up of waste filament around the tip of the nozzle, if you do, try reducing the extrusion multiplier by say 5% next time you slice the model, a build up of filament waste can block the nozzle which can cause a stuck filament event..
good luck faulting this issue.

RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
No build up of waste at least nothing that has caused problems before. Everything looks fine. It just stops.
RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
One of the first things I turned off on my Mk4S printers was the stuck filament detection

RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
Just commenting that I have also experienced a fair number of these. I'm running two MK4S printers - one upgraded from MK3S, one upgraded from MK4 - and they both do this on occasion.
It's frustrating when it interrupts a print and requires maintenance. It's *way more* frustrating when I hit the button to remove the filament, the filament is properly rejected, and the printer then displays the "Remove filament" prompt *that has no UI options.* The filament is out, and the message cannot be cleared by reinserting it and removing it again. The printer is stuck on this message and the only solution is power-cycling it, which ruins the print. This happens about 30% of the time I get this error message.
I created a GitHub issue to report this problem months ago, but as far as I can tell, nothing has been done about it.
RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
I agree. Having to reset the print because you have no option to keep trying to reinsert the filament is frustrating. I've lost may prints to that. With regard to this problem, re-slicing the model worked. I don't know why. I used the same stl and the same slicer settings. I did move the position of the print board by about 1 cm from center.
How much of a danger is it to turn off the filament stuck detector?
RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
For me it seems like a slicer issue. I have a MK4 upgraded to a MK4S. I use it very little in fact I am only using it because my Bambu printers are all busy. Anyway printing this shelf from PLA. This first occured when the back of the shelf was almost done. So I replaced the nozzle with a new one. Then two more times it occured at the EXACT place in the print. Nozzle WAS NOT CLOGGED. I'm trying Orca slicer now to see if that's it.
Funny because I was thinking about the Core One upgrade for $449 PLUS Shipping. Then I saw you could buy the ELEGOO Centauri Carbon for $299 with free shipping. Yeah, the whole printer and faster too. So I bought one.
RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
OK. So at least in my case, NOT using Prusa Slicer fixes my "stuck filament." Go figure. So I used Orca slicer with the MK4IS profile. (There wasn't a MK4S profile on my version.). And...object finished with NO stuck nozzle. I will say, I used the default infill on the Prusa slicer (Grid) which has many straight sweeps. On Orca, it used Cross Hatch, which doesn't have the straight lines. As others have noted, the "filament stuck" error seems to occur more on larger object. I'm printing a shelf that fill most of the plate. Before this I changed the nozzle to a new one and no difference.
Isn't it interesting that the MK4S can detect a "stuck filament" but it can't detect when the filament is removed or extruded? Go figure. And why when the "filament" gets "stuck" why is the ONLY option to unload the filament?
For me, its not just the Prusa slicer GCODE causing the "stuck filament." The GCODE seems to cause the toolhead to skip and shudder which ultimately cause the "filament stuck." Why, I have no idea.
RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
You may want to get a bottle of compressed air and dust your printer to make sure that fine filament particles and not affecting the sensor on the extruder. I dust my printer once and a while. You will be surprised how much accumulates.
RE:
FS status indication.
If you add to your screen footer the FS indicator, you should see whether the printer thinks it has or does not have the filament inserted. I expect all of you have a poor MK4 without MMU implementation. When you pull out the filament the FS indicator should switch to OFF . If this does not happen the FS is stucked by some filament remains or dirt, try several times to insert/ pull out the filament manually. If this does not help, then you have to clean the FS.
Btw. the stuck filament monitoring function is a part of the MK4 FW and you can disable it via Settings menu. It does not have anything to do with the slicer.
RE: Filament stuck error when not stuck
"Filament stuck" has nothing to do with the filament inserted sensor. I have no MMU, and it was not removing or inserting filament, it occurs in the middle of a print.
