XY Axis Test — X axis failed, looking for ideas, what I’ve tried

In “Checking Axes”, X fails, Y succeeds, and Z isn’t tested.

I’m looking for ideas on what else to do, I assembled MK4S from kit myself.  Things I’ve already done:

  • Used the tuner app to verify perfect tensioning on the X-belt
  • Adjusted cables on the left of the extruder so they’re perfectly tucked in and don’t obstruct the carriage on the left side
  • De-tensioned slightly the screws on the backing cover (suggested elsewhere)
  • Looked for obstructions left & right, seeing none.

Any suggestions?  I don’t know if this matters but when it’s running the X axis test, I can see it going from X values of -1 to slightly less than -1, all the way up to -0.71 to 250.59. I’m not sure what this tells me though because I don’t know what the full range of values should be.  The carriage travels smoothly.

SOLVED:

What seems to cause this is not totally free travel of the x-axis.  Basically what you’re looking for is anything that can obstruct movement by even a millimeter.  See the attached pictures; in one case where the zip tie nut was — was on the left side of the carriage (looking at it from the back) and the zip tie nut would prevent extreme travel to the left.  On the right side, notice that the bearing was slightly outside of the case.  On the extreme right, this prevented travel.

I recommend this extra answer.  It doesn’t contain a magic solution for your problem, but if you read it and follow the method, it’s basically going to step you through each possible thing.
