Stuck on Chapter 3, Step 19 - Nut turning in slot

I have been following the assembly instructions for the MK4S, and when I reached Chapter 3 - X-axis & X-carriage assembly, Step 19 - Attaching the spacers, I got stuck.

The problem happened when I inserted the second M3n nut, the one towards the right in the picture, into the X-carriage-back. I used the screw pulling technique as indicated, and I did not feel I applied too much force (used the short end to turn it so I wouldn't have leverage). However, when I tried to remove the screw, I wasn't able to make any progress. I felt a bit of resistance and then it slipped every time I tried to turn the screw.

I first thought I had stripped the head, but I could see the bottom of the screw turning. I then thought I might have stripped the nut, but applying pressure to the bottom of the screw also didn't help. I finally was able to observe that the nut itself was turning with the screw, meaning the housing itself has been "stripped" and can't hold the nut in place.

That being the case, what can I do to fix this? Could putting some drops of superglue on the nut and waiting for it to cure help?

I saw comments of people having a similar issue with the spacers, but I've inserted several nuts already and hadn't had this issue before.
