Can anyone tell me what’s happening here?
Could anyone please tell me what’s happened here?
It was my first print with brand new factory assembled MK4S, in Prusa enclosure with doors open. Overture Super Pla+
Used pre-sliced 14 minute benchy from the USB drive included with the printer. Set for PLA in the printer’s menu.
There was a filament jam mid print, maybe half way up the hull of the boat.
Cheers,
Omar
I wish Prusa had never included that file on the USB.
For a racing speed benchy on a brand new machine using PLA in an enclosure: that's pretty good.
The standard benchy is a torture test to be used to check most of the parameters affected by fine tuning, frankly, a perfect benchy, whilst good, is irrelevant on a newly built machine or a transit-shaken prebuild as most of the fine tuning will drift as the printer shakes down and runs-in. All the initial setting up will have to be rechecked at your first monthly maintenance session after which there is a good chance the machine will remain stable indefinitely.
The Bonkers Benchy is just that, bonkers, it is a nod to a minority sport racing to produce a benchy in minimal time - in the process it loses most of the benchy's useful diagnostic properties and just produces a flimsy, useless, trinket. That said, it is only printable on a perfectly calibrated machine but may well stress that machine so much that it needs attention before attempting a second one.
Cheerio,

Thanks for this - really appreciate you taking the time to explain that.
This was really interesting. I didn't realise that a super fast print like a bakers benchy could actually stress a machine so much as to affect its calibration. Nor was I aware that the calibration could be affected by the transit of the printer.
Are there any articles that you could share which show what and how to fine tune the printer? Is this what you do for your monthly maintenance sessions? Tbh, I wasn't actually expecting I'd need to do any usual monthly maintenance on a Prusa.
Cheers

The first month is worth marking with a thorough check 'though you can usually lighten up a little after that. All machines benefit from maintenance, the degree and frequency required varies.

Thanks - that makes a lot of sense.
Much appreciated!
