Using supports
Most of the things that I print on my MK4 do not need supports, but my latest thing does. It is part of a planter at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6444781.
It is too big to fit on the bed of an MK4, so I used Tinkercad to split the model in two and added a slot and a locating bar to aid in alignment when putting the 2 halves back together. I've attached the stl files for my modified lid to this post.
The slot that I created is 10mm deep on each half, so I need to print some supports inside the slot. Nothing else on the model needs supports.
I have tried to use Prusa slicer to create supports, but I'm not really happy with the default result. I was hoping that someone with more experience could point me in the right direction.

And where are the attached files? Stl files must be packed in *.zip format, otherwise the forum will reject them. And the Thingiverse link doesn't work either. There must not be a period at the end of the link, or there must be a space before the period.

Do not make grooves, make a lap joint. Or, instead of a groove, make a half-groove on the underside of both pieces. And you will be able to print without supports.

Thanks for that, are you saying that the printer cant print grooves?

The printer can print grooves, but in this position you cannot do without supports. Those supports can be adjusted so that they can be removed well, but it is a trial-and-error method and in this case there is probably no point in trying. Or you can also split the part not directly, but create a "scarf joint" there, as is done when joining wood. And I even think there's enough room on the underside of that cover on the bucket to fit an additional flat support piece that you'd have to make in those grooves anyway

He is saying that if you change your design the requirement for supports is removed. That will make it print faster, use less material
If you want guidance on actually using support then we would need a copy of your Prusa slicer project file. File>save as. Then take the 3mf produced, zip it up and attach it. A project file is a snapshot, with it we get your settings too and we can see what you have done with your supports and can suggest better ways possibly.

Here is your solution. Print without supports. Part Ayva_5L_Lock-Ring_Pail_Lid_insert_2x.stl print 2 pieces.

Thank you very much for going to that trouble - I appreciate it. I will try to avoid grooves in the future now that I understand the alternatives.
