LCD goes blank when printing multi colour

I've been using the MK4 I just got for a few days without any issues. I wanted to try a multi colour print (I don't have the MMU, I just wanted to try with manually changing the filament mid print).

Steps I've done:
- Printer Settings > Capabilities > Extruders: set to 2
- Printer Settings > Capabilities > Single Extruder Multi Material: I've tried leaving this alone, or selecting it, it doesn't change my issue.
- On my plater I assign the two separate extruders to two separate objects.
Slicing works as expected, the preview looks good.

Now comes the issue, when I actually try to print this, my LCD just goes blank. The bed starts warming up, but that's it. The only way I can exit out is by hiting reset, or canceling the print via prusa connect. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've followed along with some guides online that use the M600 gcode between colour changes, but every variation I try always leads to this. Basically, as soon as a 2nd extruder is added, my MK4 will just show a blank screen when printing.

RE: LCD goes blank when printing multi colour

I am also having this issue. Found this thread looking for a solution.  I have bootloader 2.3.4 and firmware 5.1.2+13478.  I am trying to print PLA, then FLEX.  Slicer 2.7.1:  2 extruders, and single extruder MM checked.

Benjamin,
It looks like you are using the same material (Prusament PETG) for both colors.  You could do that without enabling multiple extruders.  Change your extruder count back to 1.  Slice your model, then just add a color change to the vertical slider once you slice it.

There are other threads on this, including this one, https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-original-prusa-i3-mk4-how-do-i-print-this-printing-help/single-extruder-mm-print-wont-start/#post-686787

The workaround is to start the print from PrusaLink or PrusaConnect.

There's also a github report about this bug https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/3472

Ah nice, I did not know you can do multiple colours with a single extruder. Would that let me set different colours for different objects or can I only set that from a certain layer height, and it affects everything?

Thank you! I thought it was just me that misconfigured something in the slicer. I'm only just starting out, so I'm pretty much at the steep end of the learning curve 🙂

Thank you for this! I was having the same issue but was able to get my print started from PrusaConnect.
