Infill patterns: grid vs gyroid
This morning while assembling the MK4 kit, I accidentally damaged one of the plastic parts, specifically the x-carriage part. So I went back to my old Prusa Mini to print the missing part.
The recommended settings specify PETG .20mm layers and 20% grid infill.
I am puzzled by the grid infill. Why this? I thought that the gyroid or the honeycomb had better mechanical characteristics than the grid infill.
What do you think?
RE: Infill patterns: grid vs gyroid
Of course much depends on the ultimate use of the model but i take gyroid or (adaptive) cubic over grid pretty much anytime. Grid has lines that overlap in a given layer and may cause pileups at the intersections
I've printed complete Mk3S, Mini, and Mk4 sets with 15% gyroid just fine.
