Z axis motors HOT
Hello World,
I noticed that during printing, the two motors of the Z axis become really hot. I can't touch them. And they need really long to cool down.
Can anyone confirm that? Could it be an issue?
Cheers
RE: Z axis motors HOT
Yeah, after reading your comment I checked my MK4 this morning and the z-axis motors were both warm to the touch, I believe the print should have stopped around 4:30am, I checked them at around 6:30. I'm sure Prusa wouldn't have chosen motors if they couldn't handle something like that, but who knows. I'll keep an eye on it.
We have two MK3's here at the lab I work at. The next time they're printing I'll see if I can check their motors and see if they exhibit the same thing. If they do, then I'd say this is a non-issue, given that these two printers have about 2000 hours of print time between the two of them and they haven't had any major failures aside from the hot end on one of the printers failing.
RE: Z axis motors HOT
Managed to get a feel of the MK3's at work and even had to run home to get a different vehicle and was able to feel my MK4 mid-print. The z-axis motors on both printers were warm, but not unbearably hot. I do have kinda thick calluses on my fingertips, but for me it wasn't hot/warm enough to cause concern. I think this is just a "working as intended" thing.
RE: Z axis motors HOT
z motors remain energised to reduce the chances of X axis droop. whilst working on the printer
