Wifi connectivity with non standard credentials.

Our university just got a MK4!
However, I am unable to connect to the wifi as the network requires a user and a password to be submitted (it doesn't open a website that asks for those things, like some cafes and malls, but instead when you press connect, it just has another field for a username above the password).
The IT department here is extremely slow to do anything, and is a little fed up with our lab, so I was wondering if someone else had to deal with non-standard certification and how they dealt with them.
There is something here in the network properties that says: Type of sign-in info: Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)
