Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
I was following the directions on the Prusa site to uninstall a firmware update but when I press the Settings button on the MK4 and choose FW Update it just displays a QR code and to follow the instructions. I have an older firmware update file on my flash drive but when I insert the flash drive into the MK4 it just keeps the loading the firmware I want to delete. How can I replace the firmware loaded on the MK4 with the firmware file on my flash drive I want to use? Thank you.
RE: Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
The instructions mention to press the button once. I had to do this once on my MK4 some time ago and I had to press the button twice (like double clicking on mouse) for a firmware downgrade to work correctly.
RE: Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
Hi Walter... Which button do you press twice?
The reset button or the display button?
Or other button?
For the future how will I know which firmware If any) I need to upgrade to?
Thank you kindly.
RE: Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
Hi Walter... I just pressed the Reset button 2x and the Settings > FW-Update button 2x but it won't install the older firmware.
Thanks.
RE: Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
I meant the button on the encoder wheel, not the reset button, sorry for not specifying that. 🙂
RE:
I just tried it again on my MK4S to verify it still works that way. I put the previous firmware file into the root directory of the USB drive, switched the printer on and when the Prusa logo appeared, I double clicked the wheel button. The printer prompted me if I wanted to flash the firmware (older version than the one that is already installed on the printer). So it still works that way.
Perhaps it is worth mentioning that there should be only one firmware file in the root directory of the drive. I keep older firmware files in a subfolder on the drive.
RE: Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
Maybe it's a matter of the "root directory"?
I have a Verbatim 16GB flash drive and have the .bbf file on the flash drive as Store and Go D:\ name of the frimware update.bbf
I insert that flash into the MK4 LCD display screen. I press the Display knob 2x and it keeps displaying the firmware I don't want. I never get any flash screen. How does one "activate" the flash screen? Thank you.
RE: Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
How many files with the .bbf extension are in the topmost folder on the drive? There should be only one, i.e. the one you want to flash. In case there are several files with this extension the printer will select the one with the highest version, which may be not what you intended to do. Move all .bbf files that you do not want to flash right now into a subfolder on the drive and they will be ignored by the printer.
RE: Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
I Googled this and it said to use a FAT32 flash drive so I opened a new package of flash drives and checked it was a 16GB FAT 32.
I copied the older firmware I had on the other flash drive onto the tis new flash drive so there's only 1 file on it that .bbp file
I inserted the new flash drive into the MK 4 and pressed the Knob turner 2x.
No difference. FLASH will not happen on this MK4.
Are the Prusa developers we cna aks for help?
RE: Uninstalling Firmware Update on MK4
You must do this (pressing the knob 2 x) immediately after switching on the printer or after pressing reset, when the Prusa logo appears on the screen. This will not work if the printer is already switched on and the printer's normal home screen is showing on the display.
