Turn off wifi and keeping it off
We need to be able to TURN OFF wifi and KEEP IT OFF. I have no idea when why or how but the wifi adapter keeps turning on, disabling my serial communications over the USB port. Very annoying.

Remove the WiFi adapter?

That was my thought as well. The literature says it is "optional", so I'm assuming it can be unplugged and no longer an issue (I hope).

I didnt know, nor have I bothered to unscrew any screws on my $200 assembly job 😀 Would be nice if there were...say...a manual...to go along with printable part stls. There is a cap in the back that specifically says wifi but I have no idea what's behind it. Either way though, should be able to disable it in software.

There’s a picture I saw on the printer page or the announcement. It’s the same ESP WiFi module I bought for my Mini. It’s just on some header pins (unless you see any screws) so just grab it and pull and it’ll come out. That’s after removing the cap of course.

Found it. It was in this video, at 20:08. Remove the screw from the cap, remove the cap, then you will be able to just pull this board out. Look for the group of 8 soldered pins on the left. That’s where it’s plugged in. Just grab it and pull it straight out.

The Thomas Sandladerer youtube interview has some brief info on the wifi module; the board is just "plugged in" behind that black printed part that says WIFI on it. If it were ME, I would unplug it and see if that solves the problem of WIFI causing issues with USB serial. But I won't have my MK4 for another ~6wks, arggghhhh! 🙂
EDIT - I see @jseyfert3 beat me to this info. But I agree, I'd try pulling the wifi board.

And if you want more than just my word before you yank on boards you aren’t familiar with, here’s the instructions for installing the ESP WiFi in the Mini. It has pictures that better show how it’s connected. The connection is almost certainly going to be the same for the MK4. (As in the style of connection and how it’s connected or disconnected, not the location on the printer)

Thanks. I personally don't want more "stuff" to sit around my prototyping area. Anyone want a wifi module? >.< Would rather just have the option to leave it in but shut it off.

I'll take it if it is a FAST wifi module that does not interfere with the USB communication. Oh wait, nevermind. 🤣
