LCD Cable Specs?
(not sure if this goes here or in the User mods sections, sorry moderators if I missed)
Does anyone have the specifications for the LCD Cable(s) for the MK4?
One of my favorite mods I did for the Mk3S and original enclosure is to make a quick disconnect for the LCD cables. (I used this one: https://www.printables.com/model/361944-prusa-original-enclosure-display-cable-quick-relea and a couple cables I bought on Amazon)
I'd love to have a similar mod for my MK4 when it comes in and wanted to get a jump on that. so if anyone knows the type of connector used that would be greatly appreciated.
RE: LCD Cable Specs?
@bpendragon - I haven't verified this, but @ssmith provides part info for the MK4 LCD cables on this post: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/user-mods-enclosures-nozzles/mk4-display-cable-to-short-for-the-prusa-original-enclosure/#post-657125
Also not verified, but I think suitable parts to simply replace the ribbon cable and connector with a longer cable would be: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/3m/3365-24-100/9479206 and https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/9-215083-4/4486392
Obviously, the 5 foot ribbon cable would be cut down to size!
RE: LCD Cable Specs?
I'm looking at similar, as I need to extend the xLCD cable to accomodate the LCD outside of my enclosure. The schematics show that the USB (1.1 or 2.0 only - it's just D+/D- plus power & ground) are directly connected over the ribbon. Surely moving them, as well as SPI's MISO/MOSI, each onto a shielded twisted pair, would be superior to the ribbon cable? I'm surprised for all the talk i see online of extending the cable, everyone is just using standard 2.54mm pitch ribbon cable in the extension, and not pulling data lines into a slightly less susceptible arrangement? SPI is probably even more vulnerable here than usb, as it's intended for short on-board use. Thoughts?
RE: LCD Cable Specs?
since my MK3s I use 1.5m extension to the original 0.5m, I also added a extension of 1.5m to the xLCD cable.
I simply cutted the orignal cable in half, added comon 26pin IDC connector (male/female) to the orignal cable and made a 1.5m 26 pole IDC cable m-f.
I installed the 1.5m extension into my enclosure, my xLCD is set to top of the Enclosure.
Its now very comfortable to use the display from outside above and even if I need to take out the printer from the enclosure, due to maintenance, I disconnect the extension, leave it in the enclosure and connect the xLCD directly...
