First time powering on and It stops booting half way through the process.

I am trying to boot the MK4 for the first time and it stops the power on process half way through. The orange status bar stops right in the middle. I have let it sit for quite some time with no luck. I tried to flash the firmware and that worked but did not resolve my issue. I have tried booting many times and have used the reset button several times once it stops the boot process. I verified all connections in the buddy box are correct. Any advice?

I would reach out to support again, asking for a replacement. They did so with me on the first contact with support. Just point to my case. We have the exact same symptom so it looks to be related somehow. And I have also tried disconnecting everything besides the motors and PSU. Nothing helps.

Did you resolve this issue? I am experiencing the same problem after a firmware flash to the latest alpha version. Screen with the loading bar freezes exactly halfway.

I spoke with them a week and a half ago. A good amount Of troubleshooting was done then they escalated out. I have heard nothing since. I agree the board is bad. I am truly disappointed with the support. I have reached out twice myself and got no answers. Very disappointing.

I did that yesterday, also did a fair amount of trouble shooting but the conclusion was that the buddy board needs replacing. Support has initiated that, just waiting for confirmation and a return label since they want to inspect.

When it stops at halfway, does the screen go blank or freeze?

If it goes blank (mine did) then you should check out this thread, https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/english-forum-original-prusa-i3-mk4-assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting/mk4-screen-goes-blank-after-some-time

I did the buddy board swap and it didn't work so I ended up with a new printer which has been great. Others in that thread seem to be getting new LCD panels.

No the screen freezes, doesn't go black. It feels like it simply won't boot for some reason. Flashing firmware works, that was one of the troubleshooting steps we performed. I'm positive a new buddy board will help but we'll see.

Mine is the same. It stops exactly half way and freezes. The screen does not go blank.  I wish support would  help me out. I have a brand new machine that is brick.

They are replacing the xBuddy board. I will let you all know if that fixes the issue.

Good job, I will receive my replacement this Friday. Will update on this issue as well.

Damn it, just installed the replacement xBuddy board and it still won't boot past the halfway mark!

I don't understand!

RE:

Okay so I did some troubleshooting myself. I flashed the latest 4.7.2 firmware, that worked. Then, I noticed I get a power panic failure instead of a freeze during boot.

So I disconnect the power panic cable and measure both leads, cable is good. Try booting without the cable installed. Still get the power panic error.

I measure the output of the PSU power panic and the power panic V- measures 24V to the power V+. The power panic V+, however, appears to give 0V relative to the power V-. I would expect to see 24V there as well.

Would anybody be able to measure the power panic output on the PSU?

So maybe this is a PSU problem combined with an alpha firmware that does not have a functioning power panic error?

RE:

Prusa support is amazing! (Although they needed a second try to catch the mistake!)

So the issue was indeed with the power panic. Apparently, the connector for power panic on the PSU side was reversed on my PSU. The solution is straightforward. The plastic housing of the connector slides off of the two metal pins and can be flipped and placed back.

In the end, the white wire should be on the left.

xBuddy board replacement did not help. Same exact issue. Flashing failed the same as before. Tried the power panic fix and now I get power panic error when booting. Prusa is sending a different kind of power panic cable to try. I will update once that happens.

Hope that works. I had similar issues with Boot lock and display freezing up but it was at variable places during startup or calibration. Ended up being the lcd board that needed to be replaced oddly enough.

RE: First time powering on and It stops booting half way through the process.

I just had this issue and found a way to fix it (Although I can't really explain why that worked...):

-I installed the latest firmware (6.1.3) with an official Prusa USB key.

-Got the same issue: the orange status bar stopped midway. Restarting the Prusa wouldn't fix the problem.

-I took another (non-Prusa) USB key, transfered with the same latest firmware (6.1.3) and plugged it in the Prusa while the orange bar was stuck midway.

-A new message appeared: "Updating bootloader". After this installation was complete, the Prusa booted correctly!!

Maybe the official Prusa USB keys have some defect making it able to install the new firmware and not the bootloader. And the new firmware can't be booted with older versions of the bootloader? I don't know... but it worked! I hope this helps somebody else! 🙂
