Problem with long prints - filament gets stuck in the nozzle, breaks and then there is no way to get the filament out
Hi everybody,
I am not sure why, but I have a huge problem with the nozzle. I start to print (PLA, I print eg a part of a marble tower) and if I print a large object, after some hours the filament either gets blocked somehow within the long nozzle or the filament breaks at the top of the nozzle. The result is the same: the print has to be canceled and as soon as I cool down the filament in the nozzle is stuck.
i can heat the heater, but that doesn't help to let the filament come out of the nozzle. new filament can not enter the nozzle since the old filament is still in there. this filament can not leave the nozzle since there is no pressure from above (since the filament has been broken before). if I take out the nozzle and push the filament within the nozzle (with the help of a small screwdriver), this seem to help sometimes, but I can not push all the filament. and I have the feeling that part of the filament gets stuck in the nozzle and will make problems in the future.
is this someting someone else has also experienced? I have no problem with (once) replacing the nozzle, but I do not want to make that a habit 😉
best regards, Hanno

Try loosening the filament idler pressure, then heat the printer to a higher temperature than normal and when it reaches temperature, pushing a long 1.5mm allen key down through the filament path to push the remaining filament out of the extruder.

I would recommend doing a few coldpulls to clean the nozzle. Perhaps there is a partial blockage.
Is your pla old or wet? If so, it tends to break. Try bending it to see if it breaks.

No, this PLA was fresh out of the package, so it was neither old nor wet. But I'll try with cold pulls if they are possible on the mk4; will look into the docs 😉
