Printing an .stl file sturdier
I'm sure this is a total Forest Gump question but I still need to know so thank you in advaicne for your patincec.
I have very thin bookmarks I found on Thingiverse.
The .stl file prints well.
I wanted to make the bookmarks with a little more heft.
Is that just a matter of adding infill from 20% to 40%?
I don't wish to change the size but rather just to make them sturdier so they don't break as easily when you apply them to a book page.
Thank you so much.
Infill contributes very little to strength.
Use more perimeters or, probably better in this case, more top and bottom solid layers.
Cheerio,
I'm a noobie and have no idea how to change "parameters" nor do I know where to find them.
That's perimeters - not parameters. In PrusaSlicer:
For bookmarks in the typical orientation Top and Bottom Solid layer will probably help most.
Is there any step-by-step screenshots of them or how one makes a paperclip/bookmark thicker so it doesn't break so easily?
Import the STL, select it, Click on the scale button at far laft.
In the right hand pane scroll down to Object manipulation, click on the padlock button to open it, now you can edit the value in the Size[World] 'Z' text field.
Keep to multiples of the layer height - so if you plan to use 0.2mm layers 1mm would give you five layers and 1.2mm six.

RE: Printing an .stl file sturdier
Hi Diem et al... I'm revisiting this issue with a thin tree (.stl - Thingiverse) I need to make the tree branches "sturdier" = thicker so when I remove the support after the print is done that support doesn't rip off the branches so easily.
I see I can increase the perimeter number under Printer Settings > Layers & Perimeters change to 5.
Would changing the perimeter width under Printer Settings >Advanced help, too?
It's now set at 0.45 mm. What would you recommend I change that perimeter width number to? 1.00mm? 5.00 mm?
Thank you.
It depends on the part - please provide a link to the file.

Thank you!
The file was uploaded in 2018.
The designer provided several renderings but no photograph of an actual print.
There are no makes and no comments.
I strongly suspect that no-one has been able to print the design - not even the originator.
You would be better to start over with a fresh design of your own or look elsewhere.
