RE: My Experience with the MK4 (not so good)

@fignutz: where are you located and do you have so many projects that you need 4 printers?

On youtube.com search for "mrpresident" and his movies of his 3 projects. On the other hand I do some special prints for my own goverment 😉

My current project is a backlit wall clock with a clockwork, inverter, foil and power bank. It was really expensive fun, but it was great...

New to 3D printing, but jumped in head first and purchased a MK4 kit. Product arrived well within published timeframe noted at time of purchase. As I read more in this forum after my purchase I decided to place several additional orders for spares, supplies, and accessories. I also placed a couple of orders with Printed Solid (I live in the US) for some additional hardened nozzles. All of the orders from Printed Solid were quickly shipped and arrived complete and accurate as per the order.

I read the online MK4 build manual twice, the second reading I also read the comments for each step of the build. I also watched the a couple of YouTube reviews and build logs for the MK4.

I built the MK4 kit across 5 days, taking my time to ensure the parts and fasteners were properly installed. Upon build completion I flashed the MK4 to firmware release version 5.1. The MK4 passed all self tests. As of this morning, MK4 runtime is ~30 hours and ~4KM of build platform X/Y axis movements. I have printed with Prusa brand PLA and PETG, no issues encountered to date.

Perfect machine!

Everyone has their luck or bad luck with a printer. I'm not cursing the devices, they actually do a good job. But with each new generation there should also be noticeable changes and not just tinkered with in the details.

What Prusa has delivered with the MK4 is definitely not worth its price, whether as a kit or a finished device. Prusa is currently offering the MK3S+ at a slightly lower price than the MK4, could that just be a joke or have they really taken off now? Personally I would say the MK3 prints better than the MK4.

The next model should have a much larger installation space so that I will buy it. The MMU's are also purely craft sets and not very valuable.

I'm currently well positioned with 4 printers. Of course, not all 4 printers are in use every day; there can be weeks of break.

What do you print with your Prusas? Greetings from Hanover, Germany

RE:

I am still trying to expand capabilities mostly. Printer 3 (mk3s) just printed most of printer 5 (mk3s+) who is replacing printer 4 (mk4) to complete my team. Next up is 3 different variations of multicolor units. Ive heard the mmu2s is not great but have you tried the mmu3?  I start building 1 this weekend. After that ill do an ultimulti and after that i have 2 chromasets coming from kickstarter. 🤞  Any tips for MMU3?

I have to agree, of the multiple factory assembled MK4 printers i have used. The MK3 had far less issues. I could start the print and walk away. The MK4 i have to sit around make sure the nozzle clean process worked, and have more occurrences of print failures, layer shifting ect. I dont use input shaping on any of my prints.

I disagree on the statement that the MK3 is a better printer as the MK4. I have (unfortunatelly) both parallel and the MK4 is better in quality and time. Simply the first layer is an argue enough. If the MK4 is worth the money is just another question. Regarding print volume for me the MK3 / MK4 are in the sweet spot. On very rare prints I have to split the model.
I'm still waiting for the MMU3 upgrade for the MK4 because that's the only reason the MK3 is still there.

Everyone has it´s opinion....

That´s the fact... I don´t want to split my parts.

I own the MMU2, but I have never used it, it´s in his box since I bought. Maybee some day I will bring it into use.

Even I don´t know buying the MMU3 for the MK4.... I will think about it. Not least because I have to make modifications to the printer. Why isn't the MMUx developed modularly and there's a "receptacle" for it on the printer, that's it? No tinkering, no mistakes, no frustration!!!

How is the MMU in comparison to a Bambu AMS? The AMS seems to have pretty good reviews.

What means AMS?

The Bambu X1C comes with housing and it´s own 4-color module which could be extend up to 16 colors.

AMS - Automatic Material System. Its the equivalent of the prusa MMU which apparently is not very good

Ok, but Prusa does only have MMU.

Should I make sure that the next printer has this AMS?

Need more print space, so the Creality K1 seems to be a good candidate.

The X1C, including housing and 4-color-module, is about 1499€.

What kind of projects do you print? For me, watch out my website and visit youtube and search my nick
