MK4 Wifi performance any better now?

I'm thinking of ordering a new MK4 and gifting my current MK3S to family members.  I'm totally used to the 'sneakernet' process for getting print files from my PC to the printer (it's right by my left elbow), but would love to eliminate that step with the MK4 wi-fi feature.  Trouble is, I have read that the Prusa wi-fi setup doesn't work very well - slow and troublesome.

Any updates on the performance/ease-of-use for MK4 wi-fi?

TIA,

Frank

It's clunky to set up, in that you have have to create a file, manual edit it then feed it into the printer. But after that mine has been rock solid.

Thanks for the quick reply.  How's the speed - there were a number of reports about print file transfer speeds being slower than molasses in January?

Seems fine to me. Typical file transfers in a couple of seconds, complex ones maybe, 5ish. So definitely a delay there as it uploads to the server then downloads to the printer but a few seconds here or there is not worth worrying about, biggest delay on starting printing is heating and bed levelling, but we are still talking a few minutes. To put this in perspective the last print I did was big and complex, so we had five or six seconds transfer, probably four or five minutes heating and levelling, then just under 13 hours printing, so as far as I'm concerned the time before it starts printing are irrelevant. I waited until it started levelling then went out for the afternoon confident that when I got home it would be chugging away and the next morning it would be finished.

Thanks again for the reply - your experience with wifi file transfers is MUCH better than was initially reported, so that is great news. Will be ordering my MK4 kit soon 😉

Have fun. I really like mine, just fitted a MMU3 to it which I am still getting used to.

Just to add another personal note on the subject. MK4/fw 6.0.1 here. Yes, as others have said, the initial WiFi configuration is a bit convoluted but it is essentialy a one-time, set-and-forget operation. As for speed, I find it should be better. In my home WiFi network (which is usually not a major speed limiting factor for file transfers, as I have experienced in other program/device contexts) PrusaLink or Prusa Connect take at least twenty or thirty seconds even for small files. Not a big issue, of course, but still a bit disappointing.

Thanks for the input.  So, it hasn't really gotten any better since the original deliveries - bummer 😩

Have you considered plugging in an ethernet cable? Maybe that's faster.

But I agree with the others. It works fine and considering how long everything else takes, transfer speed is absolutely inconsequential.
