MK4 possible to print on glass / mirror ?

Hi I just got my MK4 on Thursday and thinking if it is possible to put a glass bed ( borosilicat) or mirror ontop to print on it .

If I'm right the bed measurement is no longer done by induction rather than "touching" the bed with the nozzle directly , so in my opinion in should also work an a glassbed with maybe 4-5mm thickness.

Reason for it it works on an different Printer perfect with PETG which sometimes destroyed the smooth plate on my MK3S+

maybe someone already tested ?

Give it a try, let us know what happens. you are correct that the sensor is looking for a surface, rather than the steel core of a build plate.
so you may be on to a winner. get an over size sheet of glass so that the mounting clips, are out of the way!

You’ll have to figure out how to compensate the bed temp settings to actually get the temp you want on top. That shouldn’t be too hard though.

Just out of curiosity…why

My first printer had a glass bed, once I got my MK3, I haven’t looked back.

Hi , thanks , guess I would just enhance the time for Bed heat up . I also love the sheets but as I already sad sometimes I need a very flat Bottom (so structured sheets does not fit) and the smooth one gets destroyed 🙁 , I ordered a glass bed . as soon as I have first results I will report back here 😉

It‘s no wonder that PETG ruined the smooth sheet - that is ONLY intended for PLA. Try the satin sheet, that‘s perfect for both PLA and PETG.

Satin and Textured are both great for PETG. The PEI sticker actually does OK with PETG, but really wants some sort of release agent. (e.g. glue stick) It’s also better to make sure the PEI is completely cooled before attempting to remove PETG. I did a lot of PETG before the powder coated sheets were available. The Satin one was absolutely worth every penny though. It makes printing a no-brainer, it just wants a bit of degreasing with IPA every few prints, and a wash with Dawn every few dozen prints.

I'll be looking to get the satin sheet if my smooth sheet ever shows any wear, but I've had good luck with PETG simply by cleaning it with windex before prints.  It still helps to let it cool a bit after the print finishes, but so far all of my items have released just fine with windex.  It's really simple to spray a rag (away from the printer of course) and simply wipe the plate before each print.  There's no sticky residue like there would be with a glue stick.
